No, especially for those of us with family overseas. Sit down.

There are still bound to be several three week long breaks and such.
So three weeks off at spring break, summer and Christmas? No thanks. It’s the same thing. I’d rather be off when it’s warm out.
Yeah, no thanks. My kids really benefit from summer. They do some academic camps too so they don't lose skills. the beach communities will suffer tremendously. Makes much more sense to offer summer school to those who need it.
As it should be. But no, it’s equity era. So now downplay everything to look nice but truthfully it sucks. That’s what big tech, politicians and lawmakers alike want for our lives.

I want my kids to have camps, sports, vacations and all of the things that they missed out on last summer vs sitting in a hot classroom in masks doing remedial work. Have all students take a test and offer to only those who need it.

I guess you weren't around for the discussions to open schools one week prior to Labor Day! That's when I realized what a big deal private pool clubs are to people in Fairfax County. The financial solvency of these private pool clubs is WAY more important than the education of the 40% of kids who get free lunch and have no membership in private pool clubs or the other 30% who don't belong to a private pool club.
Priorities on display.
Pp here. Here’s what’s so funny to me. I’m a teacher who said I’d teach hybrid so even when my pool opened I didn’t take my kids. I didn’t trust it and knew I needed to be healthy because I was “going in to school” as far as I knew. I prioritized school over the pool. Duh.
Now, I support year round schedule because I think the work ahead of us to assess any gaps and address them is daunting. This really would help prevent further summer slide and help kids retain info better. But parents who SWEAR we are lazy and don’t care about kids and don’t want to do our jobs and don’t think education is important are fighting instead for those damn pools lololol.
All this time they’ve been attacking teachers like we didn’t care about education or school but when it comes down to it they actually don’t want to change or improve anything if it interrupts the POOL!

It will definitely not be mandatory if it does even happen.

This is disingenuous because you and I both know for families who travel overseas to see family they often go during the school year sometimes for a month or so at a time. Particularly my students who are from Asian countries. That is expensive travel and they make a whole thing of it. You don’t need summer break exclusively when many families will travel to Asia for 4-5 weeks during school as it is. I have one student there now in fact.

Anonymous wrote:It is hard to staff camps for year round school breaks. College kids are in school during the school year. Many people will want to get hired for 8-10 weeks in the summer but it is challenging to staff for 2 weeks here and 3 weeks there
