In that case, can we have 5 day per week school with masks, students sitting three feet apart (not six) and extra space at lunch/outside lunch when possible? Or will a vocal group still say that the risk that children will contract COVID at school is too great to permit school to happen unless it's in hybrid, spread out conditions?

I think the learning outcomes this year will be so catastrophic that they'll have to enable the first scenario. However, I think there will still be a vocal minority whining about needing to continue DL in the second scenario.

Should the vocal minority be pushed to use Virtual Virginia? Seems incredibly challenging to staff two different models within each school district.

I really hope this is true for ES.

I think because kids under 16 won't be full vaccinated for another year, that we'll see schools reopen in the fall of 2021…but because many parents won't send their kids back until they are vaccinated that next year will be hybrid too. Adult staff will all be vaccinated by the fall but kids won't.

No. I think teachers will lobby to keep their "planning day" even after everyone is vaccinated and the pandemic is over.

Of course we are going back to 5-days.

Of course it is. But people here get wound up by what they see happening on the nightly news in Arizona. It's just human nature. Once the 89 year-olds of Tempe are safe, our kids will go back to school. Will teacher's groups continue to ask for shorter hours? Probably. Will they get them? That's a tougher question.

I think we’ll see 5 days a week with distancing, one way hall traffic, sanitizer, seclusion rooms and the sending home of those who have symptoms, and perhaps masks. I think there will still be a DL option for those students who make that choice.

I still think we will see some students in this spring for hybrid or concurrent. My grade level still has a couple of asynchronous days coming up during which we will need to prepare for the return of students. K-2 classrooms, the halls and cafeteria are already set. There is a large stockpile of masks, gloves and hand sanitizer. With the vaccination of staff around the corner and spring approaching I expect a “happy medium” will be found that brings the ES students back in.

PP here. I meant to say we will see the 5 days a week in the fall.

You won’t. The draft for next year’s schedule includes Mondays as asynchronous/planning/meeting day.

Why? What is the reasoning behind that? Will planning time be reduced T-F?

Initially I think that plan sounds terrible.

Fall 2021. And here's my reasoning. As soon as nursing homes are fully vaccinated the death rate will plummet. When that happens people are going to start caring a lot less. a LOT less. The media will move onto the next hot thing (the summer of armed insurrections) and life will largely get back to normal. That, my friends, is how the sausage gets made.

I'm not sure the state boards would be okay with that. A few years ago another state (Kansas?) reduced to 4 days because of lack of funding, and everyone thought that was undesirable.

They will go back to 5 days just to get this generation caught up on everything they have missed.
