And she has decided they are all "unfriendly". They may well be, I don't know, but it seems terribly narrow and personal a perspective. Also not very focused on the academics. Again.
There's a lot of evidence on this board that suggests it is not a friendly place especially for minorities with all the nazi symbols and black face incidents.
Well, if it is on this board, it must be true.

Yeah, it is. Sorry.
Why? I really don’t see it. People here seem to think of it as one tier down.
B-CC is a fine school but it was never a W. If anything Wheaton is the new W.
Wheaton is one the most ghetto schools in all of MoCo up there with gaithersburg, Kennedy or Einstein
DCUM's gotta DCUM.
Basically. Wheaton in 2021 is nothing like the Wheaton in 2011.
Anyway, to the OP--you're really going to get a good education at any of the high schools in the county. Consider looking at how the students that fit your child's demographic profile do academically at specific schools to help you narrow down your decision.
I wish you would have been able to visit schools, because something that I feel is very important, more so than test scores, is how welcoming the school community is to new families. You can have the best test scores in the world, but if the school community is filled with individuals that are...less than friendly, it will make for a miserable experience. Perhaps you can reach out to the administrative team at the schools you're interested in and they may be able to connect you with their school's PTA leadership...they may be willing to connect with you and share their thoughts from a parental perspective.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Which are the less than friendly schools? We moved to a Whitman feeder in the middle of the pandemic and have felt very welcomed.
It's kind of silly to pretend that schools filled with thousands of families are "friendly" or "unfriendly." There will be plenty of both at all schools. And the idea that you can accurately assess the friendliness of a school by talking to the PTA is . . . questionable.
and yet the reality is they are
