These same people are most likely the ones (with families) who are traveling, eating out, visiting family/friends, playing sports, going to school - just putting themselves in the most situations and taking the most risk - with and without masks.
For these reasons, I think that If my kid was going to catch Covid, I think tots more likely of it being from someone who would also be attending this non- essential party is higher.

My son's birthday was in the summer, he had donuts and played hide and seek outdoors with a few of our neighbors' kids. In the winter, hot chocolate and gaga ball outdoors with a simlar small group would be fine.
Anonymous wrote:OP, you don’t mention where you are located . There are few safe venues in Virginia for a small party for a preschooler. Our 5- year old celebrated at tiny dancers in the Mosaic. The venue is small and clean. Only 4 kids allowed, kids and instructor wear masks. Parents are only allowed to drop off. We invited 3 friends from preschool. In my opinion that kept the bubble closed since kids socialize during the week anyway . The same 4 kids celebrated their birthdays together over the course of few months Other similar venues are Toy nest in falls church and once upon a child in Vienna.
I would not feel comfortable with a venue that does not guarantee the event will be private. In our case, we know the families well and we know they keep reasonable precautions in covid times. Meanwhile my neighbors have had all kinds of parties and celebrations in our cul de sac , no masks are ever worn and I do not believe most of the families keep with social distancing outside of the neighborhood. We politely declined each time. never felt safe going to these parties , despite the fact they have all been held outside. Outside does not necessarily mean safer.

Do kids actually like performers?
I think the garage idea would be fine, I just wonder if that's actually something the kids would prefer doing over playground/bonfire/s'mores.
My daughter is preschool aged. I think everyone is assuming she is in elementary aged.
Ok. My question still stands: do you think your preschooler would actually want a performer versus a playground? I know where my two preschoolers stand on that issue, and it certainly isn't sitting in a garage watching a singer/magician/clown/etc.
I do not want to be in the cold longer than I need to. We, maybe I, do not want to go to the playground if it drops below 40s. This is why we have not been leaving the house for the past few days.
I would not want to sit in a garage listening to a performer. I do think my daughter and her friends would enjoy the performer. She loves live shows that are interactive.
FFS suck it up! This is literally an appalling reason for indoor socializing. Borrow some long underwear and endure the terrible terrible cold for 60 whole entire minutes. I would RSVP no to your party because we are going skiing.
The irony of this response is that most people want to go skiing right now. It is the only thing to do right now is ski.
We would have gone skiing but we chose seeing grandparents for Christmas. We quarantined before seeing them.
We thought going to a ski resort/mountain where everyone else was going was high risk. Everyone has a different opinion of risk. We plan to also go skiing after being fed up stuck indoors but don’t act all holier than thou about it.
We are going cross-country skiing in a state park. We have our own skis and we stay at an on-trail airbnb. So not "everyone else" is going. We might see a total of 10 people, from a distance, the whole weekend.
The OP is being such a whiner about the weather. Seriously it's not so cold that you can't last an hour to keep everyone safe. Borrow some snowpants if you must.
This is exactly what we are doing now!
And it is the best! Cross-country skiing is so great with kids, and there is nothing like slipping into the woods for a quiet ski on your own as well. The perfect workout in peace and beauty.
Np here. I got a lot of crap for wanting to rent a beach house by ourselves. I’m glad skiing is deemed ok but the beach is selfish and not ok.
Go where other people aren’t. It’s not complicated.
