This is inane. I have 4 brothers - one 6’1”, one 5’9”, and 5’6”/5’7”. None of them have ever had problems finding women. Actually my youngest brother is only 5’6” and was a beards of a footballer player and a great track star. The other 5’6” brother played rugby. My tallest brother played football. They all have significant others and their height has never been an issue.

I’m not sure if anyone reads this anymore, but it made me so sad and angry to read all these comments. When I read this lady’s post, all I saw was someone looking for support. My son is a bit short for his age, and it is comforting to know that there are others who are on a similar journey. Thank you for the mother who posted the question. Our sons seem a lot alike in personality and stature. It’s always nice to find support. Let’s all be kind and encourage. We as mamas all need it. ❤️

If you and DH are tall her may be a late bloomer.

Both of my brothers were short. Like 5'4 until they graduated HS, both are 6' now. Late bloomers.

I have two boys and one is 10% for height and the other is 99% for height. The littler one is so charming and sweet. I can't imagine he will struggle that much. I think it can be character building. I know plenty of short people that are doing great in life. It's certainly not a death sentence and honestly it sounds like he is just dealing with constitutional growth delay and will probably be tall when he hits his adult height.

I was talking about this thread with my parents today. We are a short family. No man in our bio family is over 5'7" , and the women are all 4'11' to 5'2". My dad, now 80, said he may have been one of the shortest guys in his neighborhood growing up, but he was the fastest. He was a dependable winner on his HS track team. He said no one in the neighborhood could catch him. No one. He finally reached his 5/7 height at about age 19. He skied into his late 60s. Height was never a problem for him professionally or socially.

OP, I hope you can find peace with your healthy not-tall son.

You “get over it” by getting yourself help. I feel sorry for your son for having a mom like you. I don’t feel sorry for him for his height.

Bra Pitt is 5'11" at best. Clooney 5'10" counting heel. Probably around 5'9". They all lie all the time. Look at the photo of Ewan Mcgregor next to Clooney. Mcgregor claims 5'10" which is a preposterous lie. Eva Longoria thinks McGregor is short and she is really short. So, no matter how tall OP's son ends up some 13 years from now, this is just not a good thing for her to be obsessing about.

This! 5"6 is within the normal range for men. Lots of happy successful guys who are 5"6. I have two little boys and wouldn't care at all if they were 5'6 (and they might be b/c we are a short family). Now 5"0 for a man would be a bigger struggle I'll admit.

I am short (like 5"2) and my husband is probably 5"7. I think we turned out well! Husband is a successful attorney--has lots of friends, played sports, didn't suffer from his shortness. We have two great kids...one average height so far and the other very short. Its just height. So many people have real struggles and your kids may be some of them. Don't get so bogged down in what doesn't matter.

I know nothing about football but growing up my 5'6" neighbor was the star running back and ultimately he was recruited by colleges. He was so.dang.fast. I have no idea if this is common in running backs to be short.

And he was gorgeous. I was 4 years younger. I would just gawk at him. He married his college girlfriend and they have 5 kids.

Is he healthy? No congenital defects? No shortened lifespan? No mental or physical disability? You are gold, OP! You. Are. Gold.

DH and I are both 5’6”. He actually told me today he likes his height because he seems more grounded (turns out he meant coordinated) than those who are taller. His brother is a jockey, so the height/size runs in the family. He’s also never worried about standing next to me in heels. Get over your hang up so you don’t inadvertently interfere with your son’s self confidence.

DP.. how tall is he? Mine is 15.5 and just hit 5'4. One parent is short, the other tall.
