Omg every single thing here is absolutely false. Most foster homes are totally safe. No one will take your child away upon false accusal! Do you people even understand what a severe shortage of foster parents exist in most of the US?! CPS is not out looking for kids to put in an already insanely overcrowded system. The vast number of CPS calls end in a visit and a recommendation to do something. Ex: CPS is called by neighbor because a child is in a hoarder house with dog and cat feces lining their carpet. CPS visits the house, witnesses dog and cat feces, and then tells the super neglectful mother to clean up the mess and the date they will return to verify. The child is *not* removed.

There are so, so many children in the US that are being neglected. Most of them never set foot in a foster home. That people think there is an epidemic of innocent parents crying for their children who are being ripped from their loving hands is idiocy at best.

Our hired swim instructor asked me about a blue spot on my child’s cheek when he was 3. It was … his vein. A VEIN. He has a blue vein on his left cheekbone.

She was eyeing me suspiciously until I was able to explain it. And even then. She did explain she has to ask about bruises. Dude.. that kid gets a bump on his head very week now even at age 5. He jumps all over our house.

She probably checked his vein every lesson to make sure it was there / had not changed.

That stuff freaks me out.

My friend has a child with nonverbal autism. A neighbor reported her child for walking outside in their own yard without an adult. My friend was not visible to the neighbor, but she was there. But even if she wasn't, a child should be able to play on their own property!

The same neighbor called on my friend again, saying that she wasn't giving her child medical care. This time she was at the pediatrician with the child. They haven't bothered her sincd

Most foster homes ARE safe, PP. Not that I would want my kid in one, of course, but what you are saying is simply not true and it perpetuates a scary lie. Moreover, CPS is more likely to place a child with a relative if there is one willing to do it. It would still be a terrible situation, I realize.

Not only are many foster homes, especially the ones that accept older children, not safe but 70% of the foster kids end up dropping out of high school.

Your logic is seriously flawed. The 70% not finishing high school doesn’t mean the foster homes were dangerous. These are kids experiencing trauma throughout their lives. I’m not arguing that all foster homes are safe, but most are.

And it makes me sad that someone would babble about foster home without the slightest knowledge of how the system works. Like PP said, foster homes are not the first choice. CPS will find a relative or fictive kin to place the child with. If that is not possible, then they will find a foster home. The foster home and the child is visited by the social worker(s), the guardian ad litem, the CASA worker every month. Please look into the thing you are criticizing before talking about it. Without the DFS/foster families all the children victims of abuse and neglect would be left in serious danger.

I volunteer through my church with kids in foster care, and the kids that are removed from their homes come from very, very, very bad situations. You hear overdoses in front of the kids, babies born addicted to heroin, syringes in a toddlers' hands, DUI accidents at 10 am but never Larla fell in the playground. The reality is opioid abuse is still raging and taking a terrible toll on kids.

That’s a lie. There are literally thousands of innocent families torn apart due to some negligent CFSA investigator, and it mostly occurs in the minority and/or poor communities. Why? Because nobody cares. And then we have people like PP who thinks that just because CFSA said it was so, it must be true. The same people who say, well he must have done something wrong because the police would not have stopped or arrested him. The below article is from the Cato institute about how when CFSA gets it wrong and screw up those innocent families that you don’t think exist.

I posted earlier on about my friend who was falsely accused. My friend -- who was deeply traumatized by the experience -- thinks that sometimes CPS goes overboard with false reports because they are easier to deal with than the actual hard cases. The agencies can report numbers without dealing with truly horrific situations.

My husbands nephew stayed with us one summer, when my kids were little. He got bounced around bc of his horrible parents and years later ended up in foster care. He used to tell stories for attention and he made up some about his summer at our house. His foster mom reported it.

I got a call from CPS one day telling me they had come to my 6 year olds school and had already interviewed her. I was like WTF. They didn’t take her, because my daughter basically was completely confused and said she had no idea what they were talking about and luckily they believed her.

They had to come to my house and interview all of us. My husband freaked out and wanted to get a lawyer but it went nowhere, the cps worker even said they went into it thinking it seemed fake bc of the child’s history. It’s been 8 years.

We cut nephew out of our life for awhile but he has grown up and we are over it.

And here is info from CPS Ffax:

"A child is removed from the home only as a last resort. As defined in Virginia law, this would be when there is "imminent threat to the life or health of the child." In such cases, CPS social workers do not act alone. They must have court approval to remove a child from a parent's custody. Usually, approval occurs before the child is removed, however, in extreme emergencies, the court may approve after the removal."

So here is what happens:
CPS gets a call --> investigates --> if abuse is unlikely (ie. it is apparent that Larla fell and was not pushed down on purpose) the case is dropped.
--> if something is off there still are 2 choices: CPS offers services to the family, they part ways or
--> Something is terribly off and the child is taken away from home. Child will go to other family members and only if no one is available, then will they go to a foster home.
