None of the Senators (Amy K, Elizabeth W) - we need them there. Part of me wants a role for Romney - but have a red senator willing to cross the aisle is more valuable.

I was hoping for a more progressive pick like Anita Earls, but with a republican senate, a moderate will have to do. If Thomas passes, Biden will have to pick a minority male. It will likely be Paul Watford, another conventional moderate pick. The progressive legal world really likes Tino Cuellar, who would be an interesting pick to replace Thomas as well.

He's already said it would likely be a head of a teachers union. Don't think the kids will be going back to school in person for a very long time.
I'm relatively sure he said "an educator" not "the head of a teacher's union." Regardless, the federal Secretary of Education has basically zero say in whether kids go back to school.
According to WaPo, under consideration are Randi Weingarten (AFT) and Lily Garcia (NEA). Having someone in that role whose focus has been on the teachers rather than the children is unsettling.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Doug Jones would make an amazing AG, although Sally Yates is another good suggestion above.
I think it will be Yates--we know Biden likes her. I do think it will be a woman.

Duggan controls that Detroit and Wayne County Machine that delivered him the state.
Whitmer should stay where she is and then run for Stabenow’s seat in four years. She’s 70.
Whitmer doesn't want to be in Michigan. She wants out ASAP. Her posture over the last 12 months made that very obvious.
Not true. But she came this close to VP in 2020, will definitely be in the mix in 2024 or 2028.

Gretchen Whitmer would never leave being governor of an important state to serve in cabinet - she will likely be in the VP stakes in 2024. Duggan would be great even though he failed to turn out Detroit.

Agree Yang is underrated. He would be a popular Press Secretary.
I listened to Andrew Yang interview with Joe Rogan. He seems to know a lot about transportation and automation, such as autonomous driving vehicles.
Andrew Yang: Department of Transportation
What would happen to Senator Mitch McConnell's wife Elaine Lan Chao? She has prior experience as Secretary of Labor under GW Bush.
She’s going to get investigated up the wazoo.

Would love to see Stacey Abrams with something, but not sure what she's qualified for/would want. Amy K and Tammy Duckworth could probably also have something if they want, but they're better off staying put in the Senate. Would love for Amy K to replace Schumer in the leadership. Whitmer could have a post, but makes sense for her to stay put as well.
Mayor Pete for Transportation Sec or UN Ambassador--know he doesn't have traditional credentials for the latter but he's a sharp cookie and, with the right staff, would do well imo. I think Biden would be eager to mentor him.
Lael Braenard or Raphael Bostic for Sec Treasury
Tom Blinken NSA
Eric Garcetti for Labor
Karen Bass for HUD
Sally Yates for AG
Lujan Grisham for HHS (read she's angling for it)
Chris Murphy or William Burns for State
Jay Inslee for Interior
Alejandro Mayorkas for Homeland Security
Whomever Dr. Jill likes for Sec Ed, should be BIPOC
Vilsack for Sec Ag, if he's not too long in the tooth.
Susan Rice needs a non-confirmation slot--she wouldn't make it through the Senate. A caveat for any of these names, if Biden thinks they'd be too hard to get through
There's a whole lot of establishment figures in there. And I know we shouldn't do diversity for the sake of it, but it's not the most diverse crowd of people.
I count 5/6 POC. What would be an appropriate number? Of course establishment, tends to correlate to experience and competence.
I don't dislike anyone on this list but I agree with PP I'd like a more forward-thinking choice for Sec Ag, if there are any good candidates.
Not diverse enough - need more white women as well.
Half of the suggestions are diverse, half are women. My money is on Flournoy and Yates for pretty sure bets. Mayor Peter and Keisha Lance Bottoms too, just not sure in which roles. I like him for UN ambassador, maybe KLB for HUD or Transportation.
