While there are more alternatives, the truly elite are always going to be drawn to winning programs with good coaching. So "this is it for McLean" is probably a bit strong. McLean has a great history of turning the corner for U16 and U17 teams. In fact, they are probably the winningest program at U17 and above in the area over the past 5 years The corner turning has continued this year, but dilution and COVID related scaling back of recruiting classes will likely mean fewer placements than in the past. Is this a good thing for the area? We might develop a bumper crop of college grade kids this way (across all clubs), but there is a holding back effect on the most talented. Dilution tends to take the top off the pyramid.

Not so sure about downhill...Next year’s commits will not look like the last 3-4 McLean classes but their U17 team is much improved in less than a year and very competitive with the top local teams. The U16s are strong and the U15s are also getting good. Looks like CW, NM, BL are reloading.

Many of the girl’s commitments come from the ECNL 02/03 team, who have gone undefeated for the last 45 ECNL conference games. Three players from the ECNL boy’s side are also represented.

NP - no one can claim "every club" has the track record of placing high-level college commits like FCV and McLean can. That's not really debatable. That being said, however, the landscape is changing here in the DMV. Starting with the 06s or 07s, there are now many other choices for high end soccer (on the girls side). I think it's a bad assumption to think that the two clubs will perennially remain as the top two clubs in the area. When they were the only two choices, that's where the top talent WENT to (read: not necessarily developed at), and hence, were the most highly recruited.

There is no fight. It ended several years ago when McLean solidified its position as one of the top producers if DI prospects in the country. There are larger clubs like PDA, that produce multiples more.

OK -- Richmond isn't the DMV, and I'm not sure PWSI produces the talent it used to, especially because it's part of VDA.

That's not exactly "every." There are clubs in the GA, ECNL and MLS Next that aren't producing that many solid college players.
