My neighbor said the same thing and he was born in the 50s. Rural southern public school.

And why exactly would you want today’s kids to “have to go through” it? Or is this post some weird kink?

Graduated in 1993, suburban Detroit. Both my middle and high schools had pools, and we were required to shower after swimming. It was a big group shower room. We all kept our suits on, so no big deal. I remember we all used to sing songs from shampoo ads together, as loudly as we could, while we washed our hair with our Pert Plus.

“Sometimes you need a little Finesse, sometimes you need a lot.”

“Like you just stepped out of a salon… Salon Selectives!”

It was kind of fun. We did have wet hair for the next several hours. I had a high school Spanish teacher who always greeted me cheerfully — “Estas mojado!” (you’re wet!)

Good times.

90s grad and the showers were for one thing: Scoliosis tests. Worse than showering!

I graduated in 1990 and we were not required to shower, except when we had the swimming unit. But that was basically just a rinse off before we went in the pool, and we already had bathing suits on. A checklist for showering is extremely creepy!

No one showered after PE at my MS or HS (graduated in '87), ever

I didn't shower but I also feel like I somehow managed to always have PE the last period of the day. My memory may be faulty since I graduated in 1990 though.

DS just started middle school and has PE first so we will see how that goes.

I wouldn’t let my kids either

Wouldn't make them shower? Or wouldn't allow them to shower?

I wouldn't make my daughters shower at school if they didn't want to. But they choose to do so on their own, which I certainly don't have a problem with. It's their decision either way.

Showers were a thing before and after swimming for gym. Helped a little with keeping pool water good, and rinsed chlorine out of hair and suits. But you did it in your swimsuit.

I walked through the middle school locker room after a school event and was not very surprised to see the shower area had been turned into a storage area.

In high school you would take a quick shower after practice in August/September to cool off, but even then it was super quick. Everyone showered again when they got home.

I graduated in ‘89 and never showered after PE. No one did and we were not told we had to. We had 5 minutes to get to the next class, so there was no time anyway.

We aimed the shower nozzles at the floor and walked through the U-shapes area in a line, towels above our heads. It was basically a short rinse without soap and without messing up our hair and makeup.

Yes, exactly. I graduated in 1996 and we did this in middle school only. Tiny orange towel, everyone in a line naked running through the showers. So dumb.
