I am hoping for no more than 20-40 minutes of live group classes per day. With working and my kid just not not doing well sitting in front of the computer but sucks. Now if a teacher wants to have one on one reading or math sessions that would be great. We can sign up for a time that works less bad for us. I liked the pre recorded sessions that we could play whenever.
We are I. Elementary so that impacts things a lot. If my kids were older I may want more live sessions.

She would like to open, and I expect she is trying to open, but I don't believe she can actually get the schools open.

Probably not, she can’t even closes bars and other non-essential businesses.
She can’t open schools and keep her donors happy.

What did she say?

I don’t have the exact phrase, but it was something like we are in Phase 2 which is consistent with reopening schools.

and you’re wrong to assume all parents want that. I don’t wan’t more than an hour of synchronous class per day. Given the choice between an hour with the whole class and shorter sessions in small groups, I chose the latter.

Eliminate the specials and reassign those teachers to do small-group instruction. Everyone does their part during a pandemic.

+1...I can handle music and art with my kids. I can't teach new math.

Remember how DCPS used to constantly send home reminder about how critical school attendance is, every single day matters to your child’s learning! I even got put on notice about my kid missing too many days for a family vacation, in kindergarten no less.
So now we truly know that kids don’t need to be in school? All the material can be taught in two hours DCPS? So basically DCPS is saying that teachers are nothing more than babysitters. You can’t have it both ways DCPS.

Teachers were allowed to have live check ins, live meetings, live help, live read alouds, and live small group sessions. I don't know if DCPS will continue to have this policy. We'll find out on Friday.

Why should we stop complaining about something that was an utter failure? Teachers are writing letters about the 100 reasons they shouldn't have to teach in the fall. Parents equally should be vocal about their expectations and needs. Yes, teachers were "allowed" to do some things. But that excluded actual teaching at our school. I will not stop raising this. Our kids deserve better, our teachers deserve to teach, and our parents deserve not to lose their jobs because the system has now cast them as the main, if not sole provider, of their student's education.

I'm another parent who hopes there isn't too much synchronous stuff for my elementary school age children. I'm not ok with them spending all day on a computer. But I recognize that some families want or need more.

I'm a teacher and I 100% agree. In the spring, we were (especially at first) just trying to keep kids going until we could be back together in school. But now, when it is clear that DL could possibly last all year (although I very much hope not!), we need to do much more. I hope that DCPS has guidance for us right away on what mix of synchronous and asynchronous instruction they want us to provide so that we can start planning.
