Former CT resident here-we went to the beach because summer! Hello! Also, there are two large state parks, Hamonasset and Rocky Neck, that have campgrounds and stuff too and CT is so small that the shoreline is not a long drive from anywhere. For those of us NOT from the rich places like Fairfield or Westport, that is our access to beaches since so much of the CT shoreline is 'owned' by private rich folks.

There are a few public town beaches, Lordship in Stratford and the one in Bridgeport that you take the ferry to (name escapes me).

People typically don't travel very far for the beaches in CT. They are for locals or people who live in NYC and take a day trip. Complaining about them on this forum would be like someone from NYC coming to DC and then complaining that Rock Creek Park isn't as nice as the other national parks and she doesn't understand why people go there when there are better parks.

Uh, people who live there, maybe?! Growing up in Westport, I liked to walk at the beach (although I had a pool at home so did not lay out or swim there) and now that I am an adult with a daughter, when I visit (from Bethesda) we hang out in the awesome playground, play in the sand, and once even watched Moana at night on a giant screen.

Yup, every town on LI Sound, at least in Fairfield county, has at least one beach and some country clubs or similar like Roton Point on the water/with a private beach. I think that adds to the home values in that area.

I don’t understand why some people think beaches are uniform. Each geographic area has its own beauty and each may appeal more to some than others. I’ve been to a CT beach on a Corporate offsite that was beautiful but totally different than gorgeous beaches in Australia and Hawaii and CA. Have never been to NC beaches but have been to ME and MA and love those too!

PP, cooler air temps are agreeable. Have a hard time with the cold water.

Agree. Unfortunately on DCUM, beach discussions usually turn into "my beach is the best and yours sucks," kind of discussions.

I also have never met a beach I didn’t like. I wonder if all the beach shaders are the same people who talks so much about how much they hate living in DC?
