Many years ago we had discussions with a venture capitalist who pitched us on combining with Urban Baby and a third parenting website to form one large site that would spread out to other cities. I declined because I felt that all three forums -- while successful in their own ways -- had very different cultures. I thought too much would be lost by combining them. So, that is to say that I recognize and agree that DCUM is not UB. This will be a different experience for you. But, don't be afraid to offer suggestions on how to improve things. I am more than willing to consider additions, modifications, or other changes to help make DCUM your new home.

Anonymous wrote:Jeff, would you please create a "NY Public Schools" subforum under "Schools, Daycare, Camps, Playgroups, and Meetups"? I think that would get a lot of traffic and make posts on the subject easy to find.

Thanks for welcoming us. I guess it may take some time to get used to this board, mostly the format, but it's great to have a place to go to again and hopefully connect with other moms/parents.

UB has basically been my only internet outlet. I post and reply there almost every day. I obviously don't lurk all day but I check in in the morning, when I take a five minute breather while working, before bed, sometimes in between if something is weighing on my mind that I want to post about or if there was an interesting topic I was following. Sometimes I would worry that I was spending too much time there and think I should quit but when the announcement came that it was closing, I realized it has been more of a positive than a negative. I looked at youbemom and that site looks absolutely insane. This site seems more accessible but I have no idea if I'm even posting right or if my now ridiculously long rant is even going to show up. But here goes.
Trying my hand at replying for you. I agree with your assessment so much. I plan to use this site for specific advice (travel, work issues, fashion, etc) and that youbemom for in the moment chit chat. I liked on UB that it was all at the same place and it felt like less to monitor. I was really surprised how much of a positive (vs time kill) that UB was for me. Who knew?
