Translation low SES AA students and their families. She was also rude, a reverse race baiter and dismissive of UMC in-boundary parents as a general rule. My spouse and I are not white, but we found her offensive. Yes, I know she did some good things management-wise, which paved the way for Ludlow to emerge as a primarily in-boundary school in the near future, from here in 2020. We were thrilled when she retired to Colorado.
I heard this secondhand when we also did our one year at the school, in 2011. Cobbs was leading a meeting to educate current PK parents about K and beyond. During the event a UMC white parent asked a question and referred to the possibility of not continuing to K. Her response: "Well, we really don't care if you stay or leave." At that point I believe total enrollment for K and above was something like 90 students.
It's a totally different school now, not just in terms of the demographics but also the quality of the leadership.
sounds like a clueless and annoying question from a privileged Pk parent.

Anyone else ever notice how many posts on DCUM declare themselves not to be white in order to defend a position? If all of these people are to be believed then the DCUM readership must be like 80% non-white.

I have noticed this and a lot of other threads and sometimes wonder if DCMUM is really only about 20 people posting non stop about the same things in every thread.

Anonymous wrote:What made Cobb so dreadful? The staff loved her and most of the long standing staff came in under her. She also brought the school to where it is now and the principals that followed her just maintained what she did. What is your personal issue with her?Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Wow. Petty!Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Maury parent. 4 years is nice, but not long enough to stabilize Ludlow. Principal Garvey stayed 10 years for us. Feel bad for you guys.
And we feel bad for your MS path. So we're even I guess.
Mine was intentionally passive aggressive. The PP's unintentionally oozed defensiveness, condescension, and faux superiority. Or is it not OK to return fire if the OP is probably white and UMC?
Get a grip, I'm the PP who mentioned principal Garvey. I'm not white. We're IB for Ludlow but lotteried into Maury years ago. We know all about the Ludlow principals from the dreadful Cobbs on. Maury was darn lucky that Garvey stayed for a decade, almost unheard of in DCPS (very strong principal, DCPS outsider staying a very long time). Comment wasn't in fact snarky.

Of course LT will course correct but as someone who has experienced that toxic dysfunction in that building first hand I can say that what looks good on the outside isn't always what you get once you take a bite. Trust me when I tell you that whomever the internal candidate is has been laying in wait for years. LT gets who they want in leadership positions. If that person is not a puppet they oust them and bring in someone who will go with the program. The school has very involved families and highly engaged children but there are a handful of longtime staff that are really running the school behind the scenes. It will be interesting to see who emerges and to revisit this thread in a couple of years.
The internal candidate isn’t a secret. She’s been mentioned repeatedly by name. It’s Ms. Johnson, who is currently the head of ECE.
