Do you understand how many children in this country depend on the free meals they get at school? How many parents live paycheck to paycheck and don’t have room in their weekly budget for 3 meals a day for their kids and now suddenly not only do they have to come up with food they also have to worry about accessing it because privilege people raided the stores? They must decide whether to leave young kids home alone or in questionable care situations so they can get to the types of jobs that you can’t telework or just lose their job altogether. Do you know how many people can’t even make that choice because they’re going to be let go because they work jobs that are dependent on people eating out, traveling, getting services etc? You’re home baking and playing legos and feeling sad for doctors and there are moms out there wondering how they’ll feed their kids and pay their rent.
NYC is trying to keep schools open as long as possible because more than 140,000 kids are homeless and have no where else to go during the day.
I’m also privileged enough to be home with my kids, my spouse has a job that allows telework and we have enough extra cash to stock up on groceries and supplies. Yet I’m still sick to my stomach over how many people are suffering—not just from the virus but from the very real impacts of the closures and economic realities of fighting that virus.

She’s just a regular mom who’s going to be home caring for her kids, like so many of us. There’s nothing wrong with finding some joy in that. She never said she was happy people were sick.

you get a cookie for being sick in the stomach because you care so much. are you done now?
You’re a garbage human.
NP. No s/he isn't. There are so many overwrought people on here dog-piling on OP. OP is fine. I will have to continue to find ways to work with two kids at home and I still get what she is saying. Good for her.
Each and every one of you who has insulted OP or others on this thread, what are you going to DO ABOUT THESE THINGS YOU ARE SHOUTING ABOUT? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO **DO** if it makes you so sick and so distressed?
If the answer is NOTHING, which is probably the case, then STFU for heaven's sake.
If you feel so strongly about this that you would call other people such horrible names, like human garbage, then I expect you will use every minute of the extra time you have not commuting or whatever to bombard our representatives with your plans for how to help all these people who will suffer. Going out and delivering meals???? Anything???? If you are just going to say horrible things to people on DCUM and do nothing else while you eat your stockpiled food, then, again, STFU already.
Make change or sit down.
Oh, stop being so sanctimonious. OP said something obnoxious and tone-deaf and can deal with it.
In my case, I am the PP with the friend who is on the front lines of this who I am really worried about. I have not called anyone any names, except to say that OP sounds really obnoxious. In my case, I am taking my friend's kids so my friend can work and not worry about her kids now that schools are closed (although I am also trying to telework at the same time). It's going to be hard, but I am one of the lucky ones (I can telework, I am not an hourly worker who will lose my house/job, my kids are healthy thus far).
I don't get the need to jump to OPs defense, except that I don't think anyone should be called a garbage person. Beyond that, OP posted something tone-deaf and can take her lumps. I also agree that a lot of the posters on this site don't seem to have any care at all for people who aren't isolated and wealthy suburban moms during this crisis.
Do you know what sanctimonious means? You and all the over-the-top PPs wailing at OP on this thread are, in fact, sanctimonious. That is my point. All these PPs moaning about *all these poor people* but not actually do anything other than moan is a useless excuse to unload their anxiety on OP. All the moaning in the world on DCUM will not. make. one. bit. of. difference. in. those. peoples'. lives.
Now if you want to use this opportunity to advocate for sick leave for all workers etc., then some of us might be interested in what you have to say.

DCUM Sanctis: You piece of garbage human!! Don’t you care about all the homeless people who are getting wet outside?
Anonymous wrote:I think one thing missing here is that people have wildly different perspectives on being stuck with their families at home indefinitely. I'm a homebody. I like cooking, baking, reading. Also running (but I can still go outside!). I'm terrified, and this whole thing is absolutely awful. BUT on my list of indignities is not "being stuck at home."

I'm with you, PP. I was once that kid relying on a free lunch. The fact that some of these commenters are laughing makes me ill.
This whole situation is making me lose faith in humanity in general.
