I know this is sensitive given teacher pay but if you look at it objectively it should really be handled no differently than any other service provider. For example gyms are now closing and Many are saying they will not charge their customers during that time. I personally am on auto pay for my kids preschool. I have not heard from the administrator after emailing her twice asking what the plans are.
I am strongly considering canceling my auto pay. I think it will be much more difficult to try to get a refund, I’d rather have the leverage of not paying versus trying to recoup payment. For what it’s worth this is my kids last year there so they really can’t kick me out for next year. It is an unfortunate situation all around but I should not have to pay for a service I will not receive. Just like my clients are not going to pay me this month because I cannot provide service to them.
In addition to paying for my kids' (closed) preschool, I'm also continuing to pay my gym membership and my cleaning lady. As long as I'm getting paid, they're all getting paid. We are quite literally all in this together. And it is in my interest that all those business can continue to exist when this all passes.
If I stop getting paid by my employer, I'll obviously have to reevaluate the above. But for now those are just my regular bills that I pay every month, and that's not changing.

Business interruption insurance is related to physical loss or damage having to do with something like a hurricane or a flood. Most policies don't cover the current situation.

I don’t think it works that way, also any of that would take time to process. I’m sure those departments are FLOODED right now with requests. It’s not realistic to expect any small (or micro) businesses will get relief anytime in the near future.
Why?
Insurance companies are quick to process a claim
Business expenses are not the responsibility of the parents. Parents are responsible for their kids. That's it
