Agree..plus OP said they have been dating a year already? OP! Why would you be ok with this? Way too young. They should not be alone, ever. Neither can drive, surely it can’t be easy for them to have sex at this point. No basement hangouts, no bedroom.
They’ve been dating for five years at this point, if they’re still together. The op is from 2020.

Ummm...this was me when I was 15. Unfortunately, I had already been having sex for a good 6 months with the guy I had been dating for a year, and we kept telling our parents were hadn't done it yet. We lied even though my mom was wonderful and open to all of these discussions and would have told me she thinks I should wait but would have bought me condoms, etc. Long story short...we had an abortion at 16. I still to this day think about it every day and wish I didn't terminate because I have no kids now at 41. So, yes, buy condoms like yesterday.
Seriously?! As a single Mom to an 'oops' in my 20s it is NOT some kind of easy path to be a teen Mom. I love my child but the pain, grief that comes from dealing with his Father's instability is not something I wish on anyone. Don't think that you wouldn't have paid dearly it just seems rosier because it never happened.

She had an abortion and there was a lot of family stress. My parents were not the type to leave a box of condoms available - nor have real talks. There was only 1 talk - not until marriage.
I know Burke is progressive - but as a homework assignment the students are required to buy a box of condoms and bring them to the teacher with the receipt. The discussion is - if you are not ready to buy condoms, you are not ready to have sex.
Wow. I have mixed feelings about this, if it's true. On the one hand, awesome. On the other, as a late bloomer who waited until a committed relationship because I wanted to be ready to discuss the full implications of sex with my partner, including preventing pregnancy, I feel like this would have pushed my timeline earlier. After seeing how easy it would be to buy protection, there would be one less barrier to move forward with a fling at a party or whatever like it was no big deal.
Emotionally, it still felt like a very big deal in high school, and this assignment almost lessens that my opinion.

I wasn’t even allowied to date at 15. That’s the first thing your parents did wrong.
"Allowed" to date. You're a moron. All the parents who "forbid" dating when I was in high school had kids that just snuck around behind their backs, and the parents were just in the dark about what their kid was doing. Teen who want to date aren't going to let a little thing like parental permission get in the way. Good luck forbidding your kids from dating before a certain age. Make sure you accompany them when they're "going to the movies with friends" or "spending the night at Becky's".
