Sure. So is my neighbor. Doesn’t mean I want to see him in pain after a car accident.
DP. Ok, but you know we aren't talking about a person here, right?![]()
DP but I'm trying to understand your point here. I agree that geese are territorial and unpleasant. But I would not intentionally drive into one just because I didn't want to wait for a gaggle of them to cross the street. I am deeply annoyed by deer and see them all the time in our neighborhood but I don't try to kill them because they bug me. Okay, we all agree that geese are ornery. So what? It's okay to drive over one for no reason? It's not like OP was going to eat the bird, she just killed it out of impatience. That mindset is extremely messed up, even if geese aren't cuddly. And they're not.
Come on. OP didn't deliberately hit the goose; she misjudged how slowly they were moving and how incredibly stupid they are. She didn't drive over it for no reason, she drove over it because the dumb things walk everywhere when they can fly out of the way of oncoming traffic like every other bird in creation.
Can't believe these dumb animals are protected as "migratory" birds. If they migrated, they wouldn't be here in February.

I can't stand squirrels but I have run them over twice accidentally and both times it makes me feel squeamish for a minute - I would never intentionally drive over any animal big or small.

If you left a dead goose in the middle of the road and went home, even goose haters (hi!) will have a problem with that. You can't leave dead animals in the street and be a good neighbor.
Huh? Of course you can leave a dead animal in the road. I'm not getting out of my car to drag some wild animal carcass to the curb. Or what, put it in my car and drive it to the dump? You must be kidding.

A Canada goose has a 4 ft wingspan. It's not a squirrel. If you hit an animal that big and are not willing to clean it up yourself, you need to call the city to have it cleaned up. That's common sense. OP's language (saying she was tracked down by license plate) makes me think she did neither. I'd be pissed as a neighbor too, and not because the world is running out of geese.
Let the foxes have a meal. Better they eat the dying/dead goose than fido. That's the circle of life!

Don't act like there aren't a ton of people on DCUM who would run over their neighbors if they could get away with it.

NP -The Op did not intentionally hit the goose. Its not like she was sitting there waiting for them to move and decided OK I'm going to take one out and sped up. She tried to maneuver around the geese and did not realize that a goose is so stupid and stupid that it might walk into the car's path. Every other animal would move away from the car but this goose moved its rude butt under the moving wheels.
If anything OP you are the victim not the goose. I would stick with the goose ran into you.
She didn't say it walked out in front of her. She said she didn't want to wait, thought she could maneuver around them, and "nicked" one (to death). That sounds like she didn't go far enough "around", not that one surprised her by walking into her path. She killed an animal protected by federal treaty out of impatience. By her own accounting.

OP here, I nicked it but in my rear view mirror looked to be....still.
Yeah, you should’ve stopped. I’m no tree hugging PETA person, but I’d think you were a jerk from that point forward.
