Sure! 99th percentile across the board for Cogat, in both the national and MCPS comparisons. 264 Fall MAP-M. I can't remember the Fall MAP-R score, but I do remember it was 90th percentile. Accepted to both Eastern and Takoma Park, and he'll pick Takoma Park. DCC home middle school. We thought he had a fighting chance for Takoma Park, but are very surprised, though not unhappy of course, that he was also invited to Eastern.

Last year’s threads seemed pretty angry. Hoping this year can be more philosophical.

Our CES teacher sent home a note alerting us that the MS notices are coming out and reminding parents that the kids at school may have some big emotions about this, and to have empathy for people who are feeling or experiencing something different - basically asking them to congratulate their friends who got in and have empathy for friends who might be disappointed. Apparently there was some bragging and tears in school last year. Just reminding parents that what they say gets echoed by their kids in class.

I kid. In all seriousness you are right. The person I admired the most in law school - for intellect, presence and ability - went to a state school that would cause most on this forum to throw up if there kid ended up there. If your kid is truly gifted and motivated, they will find a way.

Oh self-reporting is skewed toward the preppers, to be sure. Quantitative is the score that's easiest to bump. The fact that mom doesn't know enough everyday statistics to read a score report without spewing mumbo jumbo, is the next clue.

I can't be the lottery mailing for us, because we're not in it and we have something coming from the consortia.

They could have completely flipped the notification system this year for all we know, so rather than trying to read smoke signals, I guess we should all just wait until the mail actually is delivered. Our DC does well on all the metrics, but not so great across the board that I'd be unhappy or surprised if DC was not selected (in fact, that is what we fully are expecting given how hard it is to get selected to TPMS or EMS from our area), but wouldn't be completely shocked if DC were. We were very fortunate that DC was able to attend a regional CES, and the experience was great. It's just unfortunate that MoCo is not willing to replicate that county wide at the MS level so more kids who could really benefit from such an approach have access to it. (Even at the MS level, MoCo "splits" the focus, which I find really unfortunate.) I understand what I assume to be the reasons not to do that, but our home MS, while very, very good, has more minus (in addition to pluses) than the CES program.

Yep, it would be nice if everyone got them at the same time. I'm not even usually this crazy, and I don't think my kid will get in, and they probably wouldn't go anyway, and yet I'm still following this obsessively and listening to all the conjectures about rip envelopes vs. window envelopes... Also, for those posting scores & envelope types & what have you without giving the home MS -- it's not really possible to compare across schools.

The people on this thread are more likely to be the ones who have been dealing for years with with helping their unusual child get enrichment. The ones posting scores are aware that their kid is highly accomplished. It isn’t a normal population sample. It makes sense that the very few kids with incredible scores have parents posting on this thread right now.

PP can't explain, this is lunacy. This is a 9B because the quantitative score is perfect, while the other two are lower. The B doesn't signify "weakness" in this case it signifies a relative "strength" in one area. While the 9 indicates the age-adjusted average of all scores is also strong.

Five standard deviations is less than one-in-a-million. A 52-question math test, that is most accurate near it's median--by design, doesn't have the granularity to say someone is one-in-a-million. Right here we have less than ten score reports, and half of them have a perfect quantitative score. Great, but no guarantee it's rare--anecdotally it isn't.
