Yes! They were all McKinley parents who live in the McKinley walk zone. All white. I was there. Said Key teacher was definitively not -- unless she's gotten some sort of crazy plastic surgery and colored her hair since posting her profile pic on Facebook.

Yeah, just ask politely and wait. That has always delivered results.
Screaming at staff and/or actively disrupting meetings because you don't like the results is conduct unbecoming an APS employee.
To be fair, the teacher spamming AEM re Key is not the person who disrupted the meeting.
I can't find the meeting discussion on AEM anymore. Did they delete it because it didn't fit their narrative and they realized their "tone policing" arguments were in support of a white woman whose issue was being moved from one white/wealthy school to one slightly less white/wealthy?
There’s still a discussion there. The most recent comment likens the crazies to Rosa Parks.
The AEM posters (who weren’t there and didn’t watch the live stream) seem to think the screamers were Key supporters. I hope they post the video if only to shut them up when they realize it’s rich white women yelling about being moved from McKinley to another wealthy school. Is that really the civil disobedience those AEM posters want to be promoting??

WTH?! Can she say anything without going to racism? The crazy speakers were McK. 99% chance they were white. If I had my kid in her class, I’d pull him so fast!
Actually, she said something like “the speakers may have been white” (because normally that would mean that they should just stfu, right?) “but they were speaking on behalf of undocumented people without a voice.” I’m assuming that means that some of the screamers were #savekey advocates, or that she thought that they were.
I’m not sure where the crazy ends and the crazier begins.
No. She said the people were called unhinged b/c they were non-white. She wasn't there. They just jumped to conclusions that someone acting crazy was called out for it b/c she didn't think the crazies were white. They were. They all were.
Her words:
While I realize that the people that were being disorderly last night were White, many of them are standing up for communities that cannot speak for themselves, i.e. undocumented peoples.

+1
Change is hard, but will be ok. Key needs to move. Of course that's upsetting to a community that is involved and passionate about their school, but in a few years, there will be another community created that will be just as wonderful. Stopping this at all costs does nothing to help the county.

Yes, there is. APS needs seats in Rosslyn and immersion is a choice. They are moving it where there are just as many native speakers as where it resides right now.

....so, let's do nothing, and have 3 elementary schools (Reed, Mck, and Ashlawn) within less than 2 miles of each other, and draw weird tentacle boundaries to fill them? And leave current, known seat deficits on the other end of the county? Yeah, THAT won't reduce options for later changes or result in different utilization across schools...The "but the solution isnt perfect! Let's wait!" argument, which boils down to "don't do it and effect us, screw other people instead with the status quo," is really getting old.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Again, the geniuses don’t realize Ashlawn’s demographics will change to be a lot more like McKinley’s. It won’t be a 7 for long. Also, dominion hills property is pretty stable. McK houses aren’t worth more than Ashlawn houses.
Lol keep telling yourself that, 17% low income vs 5%, anything over 10 is a shit show
Most of Ashlawn's low income families will be rezoned to other schools under Option 1.
Supposition. No one will ever know until boundary changes after these school moves. Big worry: these school changes reduce options for later boundary changes and result in overcrowding in some schools and under capacity at others.
How does moving programs lock in boundary? Walk zoned aren’t sacrosanct, kids are buses out of option walk zones clearly.
