unfortunately, they've been shooting at the zoo since the 90s.
Yes we know that. But Bowser provides zero leadership on this. No press conferences, no condemnation and commitment to action, no words of admonishment. Are those solutions to this chronic problem? No, but a bare minimum gesture of concern and awareness would be nice.
Exactly. Larry Hogan would know what to do.

This on Connecticut Ave., across from the zoo. What has happened to the District? What is the mayor doing about it?

He commented as we watched this story on the 11 p.m. news how things have gotten a lot worse (read: unsafe) over the last few years riding Metro. Telling young riders who jump the stalls they wouldn't get in trouble sent a terrible message.
We like the idea of even a nominal fee ($3?) for Zoolights. We would pay it if it meant an increase in safety.

This after many instances of attacks by teens in the metro, the guy beaten by teens outside of the hotel, and now this. Have fun paying a million dollars+ for a home in a terrible city.
Have fun in Ashburn.
DC is the safest big city in the world, according to some data.

I mean if this is true at least it’s industrious, that’s a lot of food.

They closed Conn Ave because of the people streaming out of the zoo?
Crazy. And aggravating. The zoo has been trying to increase security and close itself off from the neighborhood, and wants increased fencing. So aggravating that people likely not from the neighborhood are creating the ammunition for those m measures to go through.
Op here
My thoughts exactly. I bet airport security goes up ASAP. We live 3 blocks from the zoo. This is incredibly scary that not even a family event at the zoo is safe in DC. The Mayor needs to get her act together.
The federal court recruits better quality jurors that the “who am I to judge?” types that you see in Superior Court, and who far less anti-police.
Agree that action is needed, but this is Park Police turf. Not clear what actions can take in the short run to stem this chronic problem.
As some of this happened on federal property they should charge as many as possible with federal offenses. This means federal court without the drama of a DC superior court jury. Try to charge as many as possible as adults, and then send them to a prison in Nebraska or somewhere for a long, tough sentence.
Where do you think the federal court is?
