For what it's worth, though - it's about 2 miles from Woodley Gardens to JW, which is a perfect biking distance. A 15-minute trip. In fact, it's probably faster than driving at mass school events, if you include time to park and to leave the parking lot.
? You want parents to bike to JWMS for night meetings when it's raining?
It is possible to bike
a. in the rain.
b. at night
c. in the rain at night.
But why did you bring up rain? Sometimes it rains, but most of the time it doesn't.
It's possible, but not advisable. I was already hit by a car once cross the road. It was not a fun experience, trust me. I would never cross that 270 entrance on foot at night.
People who bike from Woodley Gardens do not have to cross that 270 entrance.
OK folks go back to complaining about the soccer field. I live in WG. I usually carpooled to large events at JW and parked on the field. I can't really imagine it without the field but they will come up with something. Someone mentioned a shuttle from RM? That must be new but is an idea.

I mentioned the RM shuttle. For the past 3 BTS nights (ever since I've been a JW parent), they've always provided a shuttle from RM. I'm trying to remember what they did for Parent/Teacher conferences. I feel like I parked in the adjacent neighborhood and just walked over for those events.
What are the other events that require all grades to be there? The only other times I go to JW aside from BTS night, parent/teacher conferences are for concerts.

Parked on the field? Did MCPS know about this? Andrew Zuckerman says parking is not a problem.

I have to agree.. if parents are forced to take a long bus ride and walk in the rain just to get to a back to school night, you will see parent participation drop. We would go for very important things, but BTS would not be considered "really important". I do go to BTS now, and park in the neighborhood and walk, but the walk would not require me to go over the 270 entrance, and wait for a bus for 20min.

Many of us don't live near Town Center. We would have to walk over 270 bridge to get to JWMS. No way would I do that at night, especially when it's raining.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I have not seen it. How much field us left for parent parking on back to school night or other big events?
Somehow the bottom line is always: how does this affect parking.
Parking sucks at most schools as is, so this is a moot point.
It is particularly bad at JW as it is basically at a 270 intersection. There is almost no street parking near by.
A lot of people live within walking/biking distance of JW. And there's also the T2, the 47, and the 56. If more people who can walk/bike/take the bus actually walked/biked/took the bus, then there would be more parking spaces available for people for whom walking/biking//taking the bus isn't an option.
What are you smoking? No one is taking the cruddy bus line in the suburbs to get to a Back to School Night. The closest bus line to me is about about 1 mile. I am supposed to walk to that and get an indirect line to school. That will take me about 45min and it is a 7min drive. JW is landlocked with no other street parking or businesses nearby. And they once again wasted a ton of space in the front and left front of the school that could have went to parking when restructuring. MCPS literally makes up the worst plans for these schools. No thought to change that God awful lunch room and "stage" with all the kids there. It is embarrassing how much money and time was wasted on the new wing.
