Why the heck is it so far from the terminal? That's an absolutely ridiculous hike with luggage. I'm shocked it's not on top of the hourly parking or even directly linked into the terminal. Was there any controversy when they build this?
Just makes no sense.
Transit advocates lobbied hard for it be in the airport but WMATA said it was too expensive.
WMATA doesn’t care about the cost. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is paying for the Silver Line expansion and they decided it was too expensive to spend $100 million to move the station 500 ft. And they’re right.

Have any of you actually been to the airport? Have any of you actually made the walk between the station and the terminal? I fly out of IAD frequently and park in the daily garage right behind the Metro station. It's five minutes. Tops. A well-lit underground tunnel with people movers connects the station and terminal.
People need to get a grip.
Yes and how about giving credit to the people in charge for saving $300 million and not building a station underground.
Once they decided not to remove the parking lot or build the metro station through the parking lot , then option they chose was a good option. It's a 5 minute walk using current infrastructure. They did a good job.
And BTW a shout out to the designers of the airport back in 1963 where they designated a right of way for rail so they never had to actually widen the highway to build it.
God forbid someone with a car has to make a five minute walk.
Uh, they do.

I think the bigger point is, WMATA and MTAA had the opportunity to do something that would be convenient. They chose to add a walkway so that you would "know your place" in the hierarchy.

As they should have. Why is that a problem for you?
Planet destroying, population murdering drivers should be punished for making poor transportation choices. WMATA riders and those who don't drive to the airport should be rewarded.
