Where did you learn your history?

Fascists didn't go to church. They actually hated the Church...just like antifa.

Haven't you learned? Anyone on DCUM that doesn't agree with you is either a racist of a fascist. Sometimes both. It's a rule.

I started a 20+ page thread a few weeks ago to discuss the economic research on immigration. not a single one of you xenophobes engaged honestly - or even dishonestly! You have zero interest in understanding. Just a disgusting, racist zeal to get rid of people you have been convinced don't belong here.

Oh, I remember you. You’re that idiotic poster who refused to accept anything anyone else was saying because you disagreed and didn’t want to hear it. No matter that many of us had done our OWN research and presented our OWN sources to back up our opinions. You simply refused to listen to anyone who wasn’t in full agreement with you. People were mocking you because you were so obnoxious. Thanks for the reminder. I definitely won’t be engaging with you again.

No, literally not a single person in that thread discussed the research I posted or provided other research. It was really absurd, and sad, and telling. Mock me all you want - just demonstrating again you're motivated by your dislike of seeing immigrants in your town than by actual research.

DP

Please be accurate.

I am a legal immigrant. I have no problems with ANY of the legal immigrants in 'my town'. They are more than welcome and I do not dislike any of them. (Except the one lady who lets her dog poop on my lawn).

I do, however, have a problem with illegal immigration. I don't even really dislike the illegal immigrants in 'my town'. I have gotten to know many of them and my kids attend school with them.

I do see how illegal immigration has negatively affected my community and my kids' school, and I dislike that. I recognize that there needs to be some changes because this cannot continue.

This country needs to combine President Obama's efficiency for deportations with some of the programs Trump has implemented (waiting in Mexico, cutting out welfare for undocumented, raising the standard for the credible fear interview so that 99% of people don't pass initially and then either disappear or only 10-15% are actually granted asylum, hiring more judges, putting judges right on the border, etc)

Yup! And the Ds are so out of touch that they don't realize this. What they are bacsically saying is "vote for me because I will give benefits to people who break into our country illegally."

Sorry, not a winning campaign message.

Unfortunately this is right. Democrats are misreading the voters on this issue. There is a difference between treating people with dignity while still sending them back to their country of citizenship and amnesty where we also give free education and healthcare to anyone who can run across the border or overstay their visa. Most want the former- to treat people humanely but still send them back even if they:
- "only" committed the crime of crossing the border illegally or overstaying their visa
- had children here
- been here for 20+ years
- like hotdogs and apple pie
-coach little league

Here is why your post makes so much sense on one hand but, not in reality: my documented housekeeper for about 18 years is about to get fired from her managerial position at a huge hotel chain after 29 years on BS violations. This employee is the most loyal, trustworthy, hard working person I have ever met. If they get fired at their managerial meeting, I will LOSE it after all their unpaid overtime at this job and claims of poor performance after they cut the other manager job. Democrats don't always want the best for new immigrants and let's not pretend they do.

I'm confused by your post. Do you think Republicans are super into enforcement employment and wage-theft laws?

I supported DACA because at some point we need to invest in kids who were raised here and let them contribute as employable, tax-paying would-be citizen.

I've spent many years in and around Latin America and have met so many people who have worked illegally in the U.S. and then gone back to their home countries (voluntarily or by deportation).

Most really don't want to live forever in the U.S. They get "stuck" there because of their illegal status and often live relatively lonely lives while losing contact with home. I think if they had, say, a five-year work visa tied to an industry (not to a specific employer) that allowed them to travel and return, they would be much more likely to maintain ties in their home countries and more likely to leave at the end of the visa.

Regarding DACA- who better to go back and make changes for the betterment of their countries than someone who has an American education and understanding of how our system works?

Regarding not wanting to live in the US - a Marshall Plan type of investment would be the best way to address this. We need to make their countries liveable so they dont come here. This would only work when coupled with strict border and Visa enforcement and no benefits for being here illegally

+1 NP Lifelong Dem here who is in same boat as OP. I would also consider eliminating birthright citizenship. There should be citizenship verification for every service that receives federal dollars including school. We should not deny services but we should check.

I dont think they can check for the children for school since the SCOTUS ruled that they are entitled to school but the schools should absolutely check the parent registering the child for school as uwell as any students receiving free lunch/breakfast

PP here - that's what I meant. Check the parents who are trying to register. Yes, the children can be enrolled while immigration status gets worked out. And everyone should be checked, not just the impoverished. Of course, they'll try to get around that by having someone else register the child.

Eliminating birthright citizenship will cut some of this out and will definitely kill the birthright tourism industry. But we'll still need to require employers to use e-verify.

Well, if it makes you feel better, I am completely anti-illegal immigration. But pro-legal immigration. And I have never been to church. Well, maybe once or twice for a wedding. I’m definitely not Christian, but have no idea why that should matter.

You assume we care solely based on economics. Your fault. I care much more about our schools going down hill along with property values. Call that xenophobic if you want

That's all you really need to know

these people are here illegally they don't belong here they should be removed and not be receiving any kind of benefits or assistance

For the border itself too many people claim asylum and then never show up to any processing or hearings, having them wait outside the U.S. until their hearing date makes total sense

Let's implement a skilled immigration system like Canada

Not only the benefit of in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.

New York State passed the DREAM Act allowing illegal immigrants to access financial aid grants.

$27 million

The last line is so typical of the bs on this issue

"“I want people to be clear the Democratic Assembly stands with immigrants," Heastie said."

no we all stand with legal immigrants

no one should be standing with illegal immigrants

You would think that, but it’s not true. Depending on which part of the country you live in, there is a ton of support for illegal immigration.

All those candidate website except Bidens said they are for amnesty. Terrible policy.

That is true, but Biden is in favor of doing nothing at all, which only lets the problem grow bigger and bigger.

Biden was apart of the administration with the most effective deportation system. The laws that govern deportation work as is but can be improved (ie allowing families to be held together for much longer, ensuring that families are deported together not separately, deported straight from the courtroom or as soon as the deportation is ordered, law enforcement goes to their last known address to deport) so that people dont languish for years after being ordered deported .

There can be improvements to other areas of immigration but Presodent Obama's administration did well in this area.

I agree.

The neo-liberals want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. We never learn from past efforts . . .

The problem we have now is the problem Obama and Biden created.

They promised to prioritize immigration reform, and didn't deliver.

They approved a joke of an executive order, which Trump reversed with a simple signature.

Meanwhile, they separated millions of families while NOT solving the problem.

Kicking the can forward and making it bigger is "doing well"?

I'm afraind you have no idea what you are talking about.

President Obama did prioritize immigration reform and even deported 3 million people to show he was serious on the enforcement side. Republicans blocked any sort of compromise.

What was the executive order you're referring to? DACA? While I really liked president Obama that was fair game. Any executive order a president signed can be undone by the next president. He did the best he could with what he had. People should be grateful for that as he didn't have to do that either.

You're going to have to explain what separating families means. How did the Obama administration do that?

Obama/ Biden deported over one million parents of American children.

How's that for separating families, our lovely friend?

Catch and release - That was his thing.

The biggest issue he faced were the unaccompanied minors around 2014 (?). We had to take them in.

But if you don't allow illegal immigrants to enter, you're not growing the problem. We are growing the problem b/c the sides are fighting.

Which one of you Ds slammed Obama for his policy? Overall, I don't remember anyone criticizing it for being inhumane. Based on personal experience, however, my school at the time re-allocated funding b/c we needed an additional ESOL teacher. That's when turf wars started and hell broke loose each week. I heard complaints then - and plenty of them.

Oh please.. Trump also resorted to catch and release. Just look at the latest raid where half the folks were released.
