OP I beat a ticket in an alleged "school zone" where the speed limit was 15. I was going 30. There was construction in the area and the speed limit signs were covered up.

I hired a lawyer, and cop didn't show, so everything was dropped.

OP I think you show great judgement and have a good grasp of the situation, I don't think you need an attorney to fight this charge. I would explain to the judge how unreasonable the speed limit was and how busy and rushed you were. The judge will understand and most likely lower the charge.

OP, on the off chance you are still here,

1). you are coming off making excuses for you actions...that is why people are jumping all over you.

2). VA is not a state to speed in. If you have a clean record (no other tickets), you can probably find advice on how to get it reduced to just speeding without hiring an attorney.

3) if you have any blemishes on your record, hire an attorney

4) the increase in insurance will cost more than the ticket and attorney.

5). 58/30 can result in jail time (per law), but practically will not.

You are lucky you were not hand cuffed. If it was va state I bet they would have.
They will threaten you with 30 days in jail with 25 suspended; and make you settle for 5 points and a big fine; maybe a restricted license for work only. For 60 days if you get another offense.

Op the reality is, speeding kills. You are way more likely to kill or seriously injure someone at 58 mph than at 30.

Please remember that, instead of making excuses like, “everyone does it”.

I always worry that a kid or dog is going to be running by, or something will be ahead of me in the road (in McLean in those parts it could easily be a deer) and I want to have enough reaction time to stop.

We have some relatives that have been killed in car accidents or accidentally caused the death of others in car accidents. You don’t want that hanging over your head the rest of your life.

I’d rather be 5 minutes late to where I’m going, then cause an accident or hurt somebody with my car. Also, if I’m speeding that probably means I should’ve left the house earlier

Yep, I bet it was a 25 limit. There's always someone across the street from Longfellow, after a kid got hit by a car speeding.

When driving in Virginia, people often speed and go wayyy too fast. They drive aggressively and tailgate if you don’t go their speeds. Meanwhile, I refuse to get a reckless driving ticket. You can do literal jail time from those.
