Ariel’s color red does not exist in nature. Hair dye, or a wig, or CGI will probably be used no matter who the actress is. Also, Aborigines have dark skin and red hair. So tell me, what does this actress not having red hair have to do with anything?

Moana’s costume is traditional in her culture. So, yes, it’s weird for a person outside of that culture to wear the costume without context, especially if they’re darkening their skin, which is really what the uproar was about.
Ariel’s tail is traditional of...a made up mythical creature. So, no, not weird for a person of any ethnicity to wear.

Obviously you do care or you wouldn't be trying to insuate hypocrisy where there is none. As another poster has already pointed out, white people are already overrepsented in film, even in roles where the character is a POC. If you recast the 1 and only black Disney princess as a white girl, you're damn right there would be outrage. Casting one of the many white princesses, whose race is inconsequential to the character because she's a fictional half-fish person, is not remotely the same and you know it.

White people are OVERREPRESENTED in entertainment, politics, education... literally every single sphere of life. So yes it’s fine to sub in a marginalized person for a role that would be YET ANOTHER white character but not okay to TAKE a rare role for a marginalized person and give it to YET ANOTHER white person to become one more in a sea of roles validating white people whole excluding marginalized peoples.
