Bifurcation. Housing prices have gone way up. Way up. And at the same time, more and more CAFs. Thus what you get are very wealthy who can afford a SFH, and the very poor who can only afford to live here through large subsidies.

The wealthy also can afford to send their kids to private instead of a public school in which 6 or 7 kids out of 10 don’t speak English and live in poverty. It’s not that these parents are “racist” it’s that they know in a classroom situation like that is triage and the teachers are going to put most of their time and effort to the kids that need the most help. And that’s not the kid living in a 850k reno, and TBH shouldn’t be. And when the rich kids bail, the imbalance gets worse, and the worse the imbalance is, the more it repels UMC and MC families who would consider a 40 or 50 percent FRL school but not a 70 or 80 percent one.

People ignore the performance of all of the more diverse FFX schools that show up much lower on these lists.

And almost all of the upper middle class and wealthy kids in Alexandria go to private school. Alexandria has 144,000 people and one public high school, Arlington has 220,000 people and 4 high schools. There's something like 10,000 kids just in private elementary in Alexandria.

You're not really comparing the performance of these systems fairly by cherry-picking the top schools in Fairfax and ignoring the fact that the public system in Alexandria primarily serves lower-income students.

APS has some highly ranked elementary schools. The middle schools don't shine as brightly, and the performance really falls off at the high school level. It's been that way for years, and certainly did not improve under Murphy.

BS. Yorktown, Madison, and George Mason are all about 65% white (Madison 66%). YT has 15% Hispanic (highest of the 3), and fewer Asian by about 3%.

So racial demographics are pretty identical.

Economically, Madison has 10% FARMS, Yorktown 13%, George Mason doesn’t report (or has 0% — anyone know the real deal)?

So no NA is not the whitest enclave.

Is there a reason you’re not including Washington-lee hs? Which is arlingtons largest and in NA? On NORTH Stafford street? It’s 30 percent FRL and 45 percent nonhispanic white.

Immersion in south Arlington. All across south Arlington. Shutting down Randolph, Carlin Springs, and Barcroft as neighborhood schools. Make them choice and try to entice middle class families to buy in.
