I’m ok with nearly all that you have said but I do have to laugh a bit at the “sensitivity of the situation” comment. LOL A little dramatic don’t you think? Your current club is likely well aware that your DD is leaving and the media is not tracking your daughter like she is LeBron James and the “Decision”. So please, put it in perspective, your 12-14 year old is changing soccer clubs. BFD

Seems like a big deal to you. LOL

I'm just teasing, relax.

The comment just struck me as absurd. Everything else was just fine and the right tone but c'mon, its is youth soccer. The idea that the nature of the decision is "super sensitive" is pretty over the top. Literally every kid who plays soccer has a decision to make at the end of the year, stay or leave and if leave where. Sorry but this is no different than anyone else.

Even the nature of talking about coaches, hell if we were having this conversation in person I would be very transparent with you but here online, not so much.

Yes.

We love our boys' club, but it is too damn far with the older one getting the 8-9:30pm slot next year. This effect's younger brother since we bring them together--same field, back to back practices--so we have to go somewhere else even though we are happy. People all over the DMV will be moving around for various--often not nefarious reasons.

People move around all of the time.

Not the OP or the poster(s) insisting on knowing where OP's daughter plays.

It goes without saying that nobody wants to out themselves on this site if they are posting anonymously. Assuming OP is being honest on this thread, OP has already given a fair amount of info about his daughter: she is an 06; plays for a small, non-ECNL or DA team; lives in NW DC; and is good enough to have received offers from Rush, a couple DA/ECNL clubs, and maybe more. I'd imagine that you can probably count on one hand the number of girls that fit this description, as there are not many high quality girls playing on small teams at that age in the NW DC area. So I am sympathetic to OP's insistence on not giving more information about his daughter's current coach or club, including responding to some of the questions about the coaching style of her current coach.

I appreciate this sounds like a full-throated defense of the OP, but I am extremely skeptical about the OP and the motivations of this thread. I'd guess 80% this is a great trolling thread by the OP vs. 20% this is legitimate.

This thread is LOLtastic. Plus, there are numerous skeptics here, not just one.

Does that matter? The idea is to share information about the top coaches in the area. If the cach is referenced then that is a positive.

Sadly, we could not weed out the trolls but despite them, there are some very useful considerations. Thanks!

How a parent rates a particular coach will most certainly be influenced by how their child was treated by, and reacted to, the coach, so a coach may be rated highly by one family but despised by another. Indeed, in this thread, there's a coach named that my DD played for that I would advise parents to avoid at all costs, but then, YMMV.

Very true. We have friends at Rush, which OP mentioned is one of the teams they are looking at. One of the parents loves the 06 coach, while another said: "Forget letting him coach my daughter. I wouldn't let him coach Osama Bin Laden's daughter."

As you said, your mileage may vary.

Exactly. Which is why the original question is more of a quagmire. Walk up and down the same sideline and ask the parents about the coach and you will get a range of answers. And all of the answers are generally dependent upon a few factors:

1. The players role
2. Playing time
3. Perceived treatment relative to other players
4. Overall team performance

People will weigh any of the above through their own lens and will often see things very differently. Some coaches are more polarizing than others and some may have more of a following than others. Some coaches are simply despised by all and that is often pretty universal but they usually don't last very long.

And through it all, just like coaches will make mistakes about kids so will we about them. Sometimes it just works out and is great and sometimes it can be a disaster no matter how many kudos and recommendations you heard. You have to be ok with making a mistake. When push comes to shove just let your kid decide. She may love the kids but hate the coach or vice versa. But she is the one who has to engage with the coach. Help her frame questions and engage the coach directly to get a feel for how well she can work with him/her. All coaches know how to tell YOU what you want to hear but it is harder to look a kid in the eye and lie to them.

Amen to that!

I was one of those who thought this entire thread was a waste of time / trolling, but that may be the best thing I've ever read on this board.

Fantastic points. I don't think any of the clubs that OP's DD is considering has a coach that is despised by all, otherwise such coach would have already been mentioned in some prior thread relating to that club and coach. As a result, I think all of the applicable coaches are going to fall within the range that you described: accomplished coaches with good resumes, who are viewed positively by some and less so by others, in each case depending on the personal experience of their DDs.
