There are WASP clubs, Catholic Clubs and Jewish clubs etc. although they no longer just for that group. But memberships are for them.
My favorite one country club I know costs $100k to join. Is that racist.
Anonymous wrote:I am a member at Chevy Chase. It is not in the least racist today. It does have a history when it discriminated against blacks, Jews, etc, but those days are long gone - VERY long gone. It is true that there are few black members at Chevy Chase. My sense is that most of the membership wishes that we had more. I think the current situation reflects the fact that most of the members socialize with like (white) families AND that many black people who could afford the club have no desire to join. I, just one example, asked a black friend if I could propose him, and he was not interested.
One further thought. The idea that the membership at Chevy Chase is dominated by conservatives/Republicans is so false as to be ridiculous. The membership is composed of Democrats and Republicans and liberals and conservatives. If I had to guess, I would say more liberals than conservatives. I am an independent who votes for Democrats 9 times out of 10. Most of the people at the club I discuss politics with have a similar orientation - not all but most.

Kavanaugh belongs to Columbia not Chevy. Columbia is heavily Catholic. Chevy is more mixed these days, kind of a little sampler of each of the "exotics" (e.g., jewish, black, asian, etc... and YYES, I say this in jest/sarcastically). We do know a few folks of color who are members (men and women). Most are married to a white person. Its very conservative and preppy but not pure white anymore.
Kavanagh definitely belongs to Chevy. He may belong to Columbia too.
No wonder he was deeply in debt. Those membership fees are no joke.
I bet his parents paid the fees. That's often the case with folks who grew up around here and whose parents were members.
Yes, parents and in-laws. He testified to that. NO surprise. He also had a $150K lump sum settlement in 2015 that all federal judges received for due back wages owed. This thread isn't about Kavanaugh. It's about racism at Chevy Chase, which, by the way, stopped in 1976, but by all means go and try to find it if being negative is your life's work.

The whole neighborhood is deeply and structurally racist. That was the point of the neighborhood. It's its raison d'etre. Not that long ago! The Old at the wedding will remember. But a lot of the people who live there are perfectly nice.
One day it will be sport to use dogs on those people in CC. I can't wait.

You are naive. It is systematic racism and sexism.

Anonymous wrote:I’m AA and I’ve been there several times with a member. The staff was very nice and friendly (most were white). What I noticed were the white female members were nice but many of the white male members would stare in judgement. I was usually the only AA there. For a wedding it will be fine.
