People are sick to follow families around to investigate residency fraud for grade/middle/high school. Good Lord. Everyone who uses public school is freeloading to some extent...your taxes don't cover the full cost of your kids' educations. Should everyone be charged their full portion and should people who pay local taxes supporting these schools get refunds if they don't use them?
Listen, I don't agree with sending kids out of district when it is not permitted, but I hardly think it is a serious crime. Where we should be focusing our energies, money, and time is in making schools better everywhere by investing in top quality teachers (pay the good ones double) and getting rid of unions.

Why would you need to hire a lawyer to show paystubs, utility bills, or other basic information to show residency --- if you actually live where you are supposed to.

1. A crime happened in our home. We had to leave immediately, and didn’t feel comfortable returning immediately. Enough for us to be shaken in the moment but not enough for us to want to make a big deal of it at the school.
2. We rented a private in law suite apartment for a month. Less than ten minutes from the school but OOB. I drove a rental for a month with out of state plates. Our permanent home is IB
That's a lot of weird stuff --- it attracted attention. Op, why is it that hard to understand?

My neighbor next door was also investigated. Her ex-husband moved to Bethesda with a new partner and drives the kids to school once or twice a week. His MD plate was enough to kick an investigation. They cleared the matter in a 30 minute session both parents had to attend, carrying with them some simple paperwork (bills, custody agreement). No lawyer involved.

We were investigated and cleared, no lawyer involved. In a city where good public schools are in short supply, you can expect turf battles involving busybodies jerks who try to out other legit in-boundary parents as address cheaters. It's inevitable. Just ignore them.

Absolutely.
And yet . . .
What does any of that have to do with your request, which was that people refrain from reporting suspected residency fraud?
Ask people to stop being crazy? Yes. Think the parent violates your privacy? Check.
Think that all suspected residency fraud should be given a pass by the community, on the same day the DC AG sued six families for rampant, continuous fraud? No.

What school?
Give it a rest lady ..we're all sorry about it for the most part but it's time to get over it. The fact that crazy parents reported you and sent pics to your school is not the fault of OSSE etc whose job it is to investigate. Also, what school would investigate based on pictures, that's not their job... still suspicious about that part, which you missed out of the above.
