I had dropped my kids off at SACC at 7:15. I don't have a job I can be late for so even though I had a feeling they would cancel, I had no choice. I heard on WTOP at 8 and luckily a good friend who lives close to our school was willing to pick my kids up. I was able to leave at noon.

I agree this was a tough weather call to predict, but they could have easily called it at 7. It was clear by then that it was going to be a messy snow event.

You know, the people who decide whether to open/delay/close did the best they could with a changing forecast.

So what happens when your prince or princess gets sick at school on a normal day? You need to turn around and go pick them up, right? You don’t have a back up plan with someone to get them for you?

You would be the first to complain if they cancelled school and this turned into only a rain event.

I moved to FCPS from NJ.
In NJ, each town has its own school system and makes its own decisions. That said I paid $10K more a year in property taxes there, than I do in FCPS for a similar house. Everything has its cost!

I am waiting for the people who always say' but school is not childcare' to chime in on this one... Really nice that they announced a delay, said any changes who be announced at 6am, opened SACC at 7am and then decided to close at 8am. Add me to the list of parents who did not get the text or email until 8:20- after just getting downtown.

Think very, very hard about what problems might arise if Cluster 5 has a snow day but Cluster 1 goes on time. For instance. I bet it will take you about two minutes of thinking to realize the flaws in your *brilliant, no-one's-ever-thought-of-it-before suggestion*.

And yet you can’t do any thinking to figure out how to solve that? I know it’s easier to be snide and snarky than actually think and have a real discussion or contemplate change but you should try it sometime.
