There's a subset of the Churchill families that had disfunctional principals at Beverly Farms, Hoover, and Churchill. The new principal was rubber stamped by the old director in similar fashion as the current Hoover principal was rubber stamped by the director at the time. Parents are tired of how MCPS trains it's leadership to operate. Heckert is falling into the pitfalls of the MCPS training.

Parents make up the PTSA. If parents reached out to her and spoke to her about the issue, then so what if she didn't speak to the precious PTSA.

It is her email that implies she received PTSA input that jeopardizes her credibility. No one is served by a principal that has difficulty with being open and honest.

Seriously—we’re in year 5 of a terrible principal, but everyone gave him a chance in years one and two to learn the job. If she still sucks in years three and so on, then I’d start complaining. But conserve your energy. Mcps gets rid of no one who can show the most basic level of competence.

When it is a school safety issue, parents can't afford to be silent. Moving large buses to a small lot with many students walking through the area is a safety issue.

Transportation was supposed to have been reviewed last spring after a student was hit by a car. Why wasn't the bus issue addressed through that process and discussion? It seems like MCPS didn't consider the bus issue till after the start of the school year.

As a parent, I am concerned about the large number of students who are walking through the Victory parking lot at the end of the school day. Mixing buses with students and their cars seems like an accident waiting to happen. If MCPS needs the extra loop for buses, then they should switch the student parking lot with the faculty parking lot. This would cut down on students walking through the bus area to get to their cars.

I’m not an administrator and think plenty of them need better skills, particularly in the area of communication, but I still feel sympathetic toward Mrs. Heckert. Parents can be tough! She’s working with a consulting principal since she’s a first year principal—she could get support as needed.

The statement "I have worked with the PTSA" implies that she worked with the membership. Everyone knows we did not have a PTSA membership meeting since she has been principal so it hurts her credibility to make that type of statement. Not a great way to start a new job.

If Mrs. Heckert only met with the PTSA President or the PTSA officers, then be specific and state that. They don't speak for everyone outside of a vote but they can be individuals with opinions.

Frankly, it is a poor decision to not get community wide input before moving buses to the limited space in the Victory Lane loop.

Former PTA Officer and former PTA President

This is an issue that has a large impact on parents and students. I would hope that the PTSA officers realize that their input is limited unless brought collectively to membership, even if a special membership meeting needs to be held in light the September meeting was canceled.

Not true at all. If there isn't a meeting, the Board can still give input and make decisions. This isn't about spending PTA funds, the Board doesn't need to consult with the membership on every little thing.
