It's been a problem in the immigration policy area for awhile, although this situation is a little different in that the U.S. children were with other relatives and out in the community. Not a tent or a Walmart.
However, it just underscores that our values don't change just because there is a different president.
Our? You don't hold my values. My values are the rule of law and personal responsibility.

They must be those trolls who post from outside DC. They are why Jeff stopped putting politics on recent topics. It is nauseating to read the shit these people post. This used to be a civil forum. I think Jeff should just delete the entire forum and let DCUM be just about parenting and other tlrelated topics.
Seriously, don’t engage. If those that think like them are the majority, we have already lost. Work on getting people that share your sense of outrage on this shameful chapter to vote in November and again in 2020. Find charities and groups you can support to help those in need now. Leave the politics forum alone - I hope it’s not represented Of American sentiments in general. But we won’t know until after the election.
why do liberals all favor illegals over us citizens? There is seriously something very wrong with them—to turn your back on your fellow Americans and push illegals through the system? That’s some serious “compassion” right there.

The difference between this White House and previous ones is that this one consistently expresses such outrageous language that the media is actively pursuing it on all fronts. They don't get a break, because they are shockingly vulgar loud-mouths and continually provoke people.
Anytime any administration does things quietly and on the side, it leads to potentially dangerous inertia on the media front. The EPA and other branches of government have quietly undone multiple protections set in place by the previous administration, which haven't had the front-page coverage they deserve because Trump occupies all the news.
We need to be vigilant.
In other words.........you weren’t outraged when Obama did it because he had a compliant media.

1) isn’t happening
2) that it’s being used as a deterrent
3) that the Bible justifies it and
4) that it’s the democrats fault.

It is now common knowledge that illegal immigration into the United States is being treated as the crime that it legally is. When an adult with a minor child commits a crime, they are detained. Part of that detention is that someone has to take care of their minor children.
Many minor children of detained people --US citizens included, end up in foster care. But while they are waiting for their foster parents, they are placed in group homes. The children's detention center is a very large group home.
So, as a parent, knowing that illegal immigration is no longer tolerated in the US and that you will be separated from your child, why do you as the adult still make the decision to commit the crime?
Because the situation they are fleeing is that bad. The Trump Administration hasn’t figured this out yet.
NP. You’re making this up. You don’t have evidence. Mexico, for example, is not a hell hole. Plenty of people live safe and happy lives there.
Perhaps you need to travel more?
You realize most of these people are not from Mexico, right? They happen to be currently in Mexico because it is the land mass south of the US, but they are fleeing from harrowing situations in other countries.
The thing about being a refugee is you generally don’t get to take your pick of any country in the world to make your new home. If these refugees are safe while making their way through Mexico, then they’re safe.

If you really care about brown American children, then stop importing them from other countries.
We can't raise wages if people just leak through the borders.

Obama lacked leadership to do anything about illegal immigration other than take the easy way out a rewards law breakers with the most coveted citizenship in the world.

What’s worse separating citizens from their parents or recent illegal aliens from their parents?
Immigration status doesn't matter. Family does. Humans do. Aren't you all supposed to be pro-family?
So you believe this for all crimes? Rob a bank and you can’t be separated from kids?
How is looking for asylum any near equivalent to robbing a bank?
