I’m not a Kate “fan”, I’ve just lived in official/private residences and know that they, more than anyone but the Queen and Charles themselves, do not have the freedom the rest of us have. You’re talking about a young woman who is told that she can only ever paint her nails one color and must always wear pantyhose. Do you really think the red Peter Pan collar post delivery dress spoke to her? She has a very specific image to portray and old, stuffy, British is the goal. Upper class houses often look like this and worn, inherited stuff is common. Old things for old money and they are the epitome of old money.

It is rather random to have a painting in your sitting room with a Negro Page on it. Like of all the choices in your extensive art collection - that's what you choose? A servant boy with two horses showing a non-English countryside??

Ugh, Michelle's dress is way too short especially for an occassion like this. The dress may look fine standing up, but it rides up way too much when sitting so much so she has to create surface area with her hand.

It would only be in AD because of who they are. We're all interested in what the living spaces of these palaces really look like.

But come on, it would need a LOT of extra styling to make it on its own merits and not because one of the world's only real princes lives there with his wife and family.

Yes.

Look at the Obama White House.

You have official rooms and then the private rooms.

Not on the same scale, but we were stationed at a military base with a huge historical mansion for the main general's house. There was a historic type group that managed the house, and they had a store of furniture that fit the style and era of the house that each general's wife would shop through when they moved in to fill out their own furnishings and to furnish the main formal entertaining area.

I went to the house while two different generals lived there. The huge formal room and I think dining room were mostly stock furniture from the collection, while their own stuff was mostly in the back more private areas (family room off the kitchen, den, etc.)

I am sure the palaces are the same way.

We don't know how much of the furnishings in this particular room are newly purchased by Kate, and how much is stuff she picked from the castle's furniture collection.

If she is trying to present a frugal front, a lot of it might be stuff she is recycling.

They're all better than what's going on in Will and Kate's room.

They all use more colors and textures to create visual interest.

Will and Kate's room has none of that going on, just fugly original art and furniture (the royals' version of family hand me downs).

I've hired interior decorators before but never an architect. Now I'm really seeing what they can do to transform an old, crappy apartment into a beautiful grandiose home.
