There is a poster here who hates the school. So every time a post on UChicago is posted, he shows up and posts how in his opinion Uchicago is a terrible overrated school. He has done it dozens of times on UChicago posts. Multiple times. He had multiple accounts on reddit that he used to do the same thing. Until he was exposed and the accounts were banned. So now he does it here. It is just fine to say that you dislike the school in context once and then move on. But this poster got rejected and had a deep and abiding irrational hostility towards the school and tries to hijack every thread with his venom. He really doesn't care when his wild accusations are countered with actual data. He just moves on and starts mouthing of about the students. Go back and check any thread where UChicago is mentioned and you will recognize this poster. Also try starting a UChicago thread and he will show up.

The rest of the nasty posts are reaction to this poster by others who are either mocking him or have kids in the school or just other annoyed posters.

Till he tires and moves on, this is what you are going to see in every UChicago thread unless folks who are responding to this poster just ignore him. He is most likely a jealous troll.

As a PP noted, to move up as far and as fast as UChicago has in the past few decades, you have to start out with excellent fundamentals (and, probably, being underrated or relatively unknown). Same admissions guy, between the Yale and UChicago gigs, was very successful at RPI, but RPI isn’t headed to the top 10 anytime soon.

If you go beyond 10 years, you'll see that Chicago admit rate was significantly higher than 28%. This was part of the tightening of the admit trend. Also OP has expressed surprise that Chicago is losing students to Richmond or even to UVA. If you look at the historical admit ratio where Chicago used to hover around 40%, you'll be able to connect the dots. Chicago fans, not surprisingly, are refusing to see the connection, constantly pulling in Yale to the picture as if it has the same pedegree or historical reputation that Yale has. Any one familiar with chicago's marketing effort can easily see that Chicago and Yale's marketing strategies are very different. Yale doesn't need to market itself. If Chicago were to stop it's WWE marketing strategy, it knows its admit rate will eplunge back down to the 40% level.

There are tons of great schools in the USA that don't participate in the USNews. Google Annapolis Group, a list of approximately 80 colleges that refuse to play the USNews game. Oberlin Group is another group of 50. Those are huge number of schools. Hence, the USNews is like the Olympics without the top countries playin' the game.
