I'm the PP who has a DC currently in one of the old dorms. FWIW, everyone paints it out to be some harrowing experience. It really isn't. The no-AC problem becomes a non-issue after mid-September (even before then, it's not bad if you have fans). I think about half of VT freshman dorms don't have AC either. Anyways, she told me recently that she loves Old Dorms now and would live with them again over New Dorms in a heartbeat.

PP here. I was being sarcastic re harrowing, albeit I can’t even describe what it was to be in Metcalf on the south-facing side on a 100 degree day.

All i can tellyou is that Humphreys is not nice in August/September and even October with a smelly roommate. And it starts up again in April with no A/C. Renovations were promised to start in 2017 but didn't at least for Humphreys.

UVA is still 2/3s in-state students. That hasn’t changed. And it’s actually still harder for OOS and international students to get in than it is for in-state. That is not what we are arguing here. We are pointing out that UVA has not kept up with avid ginia’s population growth. If it wants to claim that it is a public university, then it damn well better start acting like one or go private. Instead, it’s using its status as a top public institution to draw in elite money and elite students. It is also using a publicly on property to do the same.

NP. I'm genuinely curiously by what you mean by this. Do you have statistics, information, anything to back this, or is it based off perception?

Also, have you been to Charlottesville/on the UVA Grounds? It's a pretty crammed in area as it is. There's literally nowhere to expand without maintaining the integrity of the school.

Agree. I have a third year there. His first year dorm was hideous - right out of the GI Bill fugly. There is no more room. Also, why shouldn't UVA act like UCLA and Berkeley and bring in diversity, OOS, low-income and international students, as it is doing. There are 40 other public universities in the state to meet all needs.

Was he in the old dorms, and did he select them? Back in the day ( I know) old dorms were preferred by many, in spite of their nastiness. Now that the New Dorms are truly new, has that shifted?
