Also self discipline is seen as personally virtuous.
Our husbands work out also. Our families take sporty, hearty, active vacations. We socialize with our friends in running groups, hiking, and soul cycle classes, etc.
We put sporty outdoorsy stickers on our cars.
It is a whole culture.
everything is true except that exercise is not particularly healthy. however it is essential for this culture to belive so because that's the essential ingredient of this new religion - a belief that virtuous people exercise and will be healthy while rotten people will be punished for their lack of exercise.
Are you always this nasty? It's an ugly thing. I'm white and I exercise because I enjoy exercising! I swim and go to yoga everyday. My husband is Bangladeshi and he exercises too! Your culture can be so overbearing. Just leave us alone. Some Americans are naturally thin and we enjoy exercising. I have a disease that causes joint pain and I've had it all throughout my 20s. Swimming and yoga help with my pain immensely. Exercising is healthy. Perhaps you should look into volunteering instead of trashing your "friends ".
what culture are you alluding to as overbearing? i don't think that poster said anything about a culture and nothing close to south asia.
She's Pakistani
no i am not

When I get too old, my plan is to move to a culture where women aren't shat upon for aging, rather, they're revered for their continued good health and long life. Whereas, if you stay in the states, you're treated like you deserve a public flogging for every wrinkle and lb.

I can tell you I, for one, would need to be medicated if I didn't work out regularly. Hard workouts are my antidepressant!
Mine too!

Why are white wonen so anxious and depressed.

Some possibilities:
1) Maybe your friend has an unhealthy attitude towards exercise and is overdoing it to the detriment of her emotional life. She needs to feel control and obsession about exercise is one way she tries to do that.
2) Maybe your friend has a health attitude towards exercise and it makes her feel great everyday and she doesn't care what she looks like.
Me, I adhere to #2 and I work out 5 days a week. I feel fantastic and I don't give a fig what people think about the way I look. Feeling good is more important.

but exercise doesn't make you thin. if you want to be thin, eat less.
Maybe it doesn't make YOU thin. But when I work out, I can eat pretty much whatever I want, and still maintain a slender toned figure.
but why would you want to eat so much? do your really take so much pleasure in stuffing yourself with food?
Not PP, but you’re being ridiculous. You’re probably so miserable because all you eat is boneless chicken breasts and cauliflower forever. “Eating whatever she wants” doesn’t equate to being an obese fatty, like you’re insinuating. Like PP, when I work out regularly, I can eat about 1800 calories a day and not gain weight. I know from reading DCUM that’s a lot more calories than most you can eat because you refuse to get off your lazy a**es. I’m not “stuffing myself with food,” but I don’t have to deny myself pizza or ice cream if I want a treat. I can have an extra helping of mashed potatoes. I’m sorry your intermittent fasting and lack of carbs has made you completely miserable in life.
i don't like particularly like chicken and i eat what i want... but little. quantity is the key. but americans must have heaps of food covering their plates, "healthy" snacks in their pockets because "omg i am starving" and then they they go to gym to run on a treadmill. pathetic.

I would love to be able to make art during the time, or make music, or read. Unfortunately, there is either something wrong with America's food supply or with my body, because I require incredible amounts of exercise just to be a normal size. I fear that I am not alone in this.
