The comment they made was appropriate.... these conversations are private.
As a parent of a soldier, I would be furious if a Congress person made public the call made to me by the CIC if my son were KIA.

If you can rationalize that these men 'knew what they were signing up for,' you won't feel as bad when they are killed and might not take as much care to avoid conflicts. Trump doesn't get that for many people, like immigrants who join the military to get citizenship and people who join up straight out of high school because they can't afford college, the military is the best and sometimes the only prospect of advancement they have. If they had the opportunities and inherited wealth Trump had, they may have chosen a safer career.

And you are perfectly okay when people simply shrug their shoulders and say, "oh well, it's goes with the job," when a soldier, marine, sailor, police officer, fireman lose their life. It is after all what they all signed up for, including your child. That's sad.

Why is this democratic congresswoman politicizing something that should have no place in politics? The president spoke for 5 minutes with the grieving widow. And this democrat picked out one sentence out of context? Shameful. The widow probably hated it to see his late husband's death being used on CNN to attack the commander in chief.
I agree. And, Fredrica Wilson really should not be making any of this conversation public. It was a private conversation between a widow and the CIC.
Shame on Ms. Wilson.
Yes we should hide the wrong doings over our leaders.

Does the congresswoman have receipts???
It's easy to record things with a smart phone. Not out of the realm of possibility that a recording surfaces. I hope it does. Let Americans hear the sobs of a widow grieving for her husband who was killed in combat. There are too many warmongering chicken hawks in power today who have no idea what it means to lose someone in battle because they've never served in the military.

And if the CIC said something callous and inappropriate to me in the same situation I would make sure anyone with eyes or ears knew about it.

I think we should all get way more outraged about endless war than we do about which platitudes are ok to use with respect to those dying in the endless wars.
Its kind of true that his body rotted in the desert for several days and was probably chewed on by animals. So its fine to bring up, right?

OK, if the president called you and said this, you would be OK with that, right?
