That's exactly it- basically comments about "obnoxious Americans". Which I can KIND OF understand in the context of cultural differences and not liking Trump, etc- however, when it moves over into "Americans have no sense of humor" "Americans have the worst food" "Americans all dress like slobs" I start to think it's just flat out unacceptable generalized rudeness

I have a British friend who was constantly putting the US down. I always felt like reminding her that nobody forced her to move here, get a job, get a green card.....if it's so awful, why are you here?
OMG, I wonder if we have the same friend. I have one who is just like this - always saying rude and negative things about the US, where she now lives. I have been so tempted to tell her just to move back to the UK already. She'd be happier, I'd be happier.
I think it's just the Brits in general. This is exactly the strain of rudeness OP is talking about. Why move somewhere and complain about it 24/7 and make no effort to move elsewhere? That's when it becomes you just want to be a douche and complain

DP, what continent it is located on? Why none, it is an island and while us Continentals might think it is part of Europe, British people certainly do not.

I didn't realize there were people as ignorant as PP. While the Brits might not "think of themselves" as being part of Europe, they most certainly are. They're a part of the European Union (though, not for long).

Last week, I was in an airport lounge and smiled hello at an English man in the elevator. You know, like normal polite people do. He gave me a nasty look and said, "What do you want?" Bizarre.
Could have just been him, but - I travel a lot, and I've noticed a lot of this lately (and I'm an overweight woman, so obviously American).
Yeah. Very bizarre. I know there are cultural differences but... it's hard to overlook something like that. And that is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about, strangely hostile behavior

Our family stayed in a B&B in England a couple of years ago. There were families from all different countries staying there and the owner was so nice to everyone... except us. He made a big point of making "American" digs/rude jokes about us. Very hostile person.
