I am a teacher in the Chicago area and make 65K. I'm 46. To be fair, if I'd started in the district I am currently in and stayed there my whole career, I'd be making 20K+ more. But I moved around a lot and most districts do not allow you to carry in all your years of experience. Presently, I'm being paid as if I have 7 years of experience, when in reality I have 24 years experience.

The 2 single moms live in DC, cause we both used DC specific programs to buy homes.

I'm 28 and I make a little over 60k. I'm a nanny.

No, and I never will. DH will probably never make that much either. But between the two of us, we live a very nice lifestyle. Not in DC (but can't resist reading this forum) but in another very expensive east coast location.

Jumped from $80K to $100K at 43 couple years ago, then dipped down to $90K to join feds, hope to be back up in a couple years and by then my first home will be paid off and can start chipping away at the 2nd one.

I did hit 100k, but not until 42. I started working, at 31 at 35K.

OP here - very nice NoVa suburb, $1 million+ homes. (I bought before the run-up, obviously.)

OP here - and I agree. Even though I didn't cross $100k until 50, I feel fortunate to have gotten there at all. It's a good life.

I'm 31 and make 65k. It's my first full time job after grad school so it was actually a doubling of income for me, but my expenses also increased a great deal (insurance premiums, full time day care, dc rent) and I'm a contractor without job security, so I don't feel any more secure than when I was making 31k. If I had more security and better benefits I think it would be an ok salary.

42

Public interest lawyer in DC

$82k (But there's a pension.)

Love the work, but it kills me that I can't hit the $100k mark if I stay here.

130k 35 2 young kids
i just hit the 100k threshold last year but most in my profession don't attain that until 40ish. I'm in management and have the opportunity to move up rapidly but not sure I want that because I have good work-life balance now and don't travel.
Everyone else I know above that has to seriously give up something.

I'm 41 and make $72K as a graphic designer/fitness instructor. I'm taking some courses offered at work and hope to jump up another $10K next year after I certify in more programs.

Forgot to mention Im 40.
