I've been worried that the hole called "Hades" might be near Friendship/Turtle Park, since they don't know where it is for sure and this area is both part of the FUDS and has topography similar to the photo.

I almost positive that hades is on the other side of mass avenue from turtle park...I believe I have seen some maps showing the possibilities...
They have always been guessing. The records are poor. And the photos are non-conclusive about where the site is. While the FUDS area clearly includes Turtle Park and the hill to the south, I'm pretty sure no attempt has been made to determine whether or not there are munitions buried there.

Not sure if you are just trolling, but you seem confused as to where the uncertainty lies. The boundaries of the site formerly under jurisdiction of the Army (the Formerly Used Defense Site or FUDS) are firmly known. Only a very small part of AU Park at the southern end of the neighborhood belonged to it, most of the FUDS was where Spring Valley is today (see the map posted above). What they don't know is where exactly on the FUDS munitions and contamination might be found, which is why one might be suspicious of all of Spring Valley even if most properties are probably ok. But any adjoining areas outside of the FUDS, whether AU Park or the Palisades or Wesley Heights, were never under Army jurisdiction and not used for chemical weapons testing, and are therefore no more questionable than any other neighborhoods in and around DC.

Large swaths of SV also are unaffected. Yet somehow it is fair to condemn all of SV.
Even if munitions have only been found in some parts, most of Spring Valley was part of the FUDS. That is the difference.

They do know the boundaries of the FUDS. If you think of this as a "game changer" (for you, since it's not a new discovery), you might want to cross all nearby neighborhoods off your list.

To the poster (14:40) who said people live in Spring Valley for the large lots, trees, quite streets, crime free, and access to private schools and country clubs, have you ever heard of Chevy Chase and Barnaby Woods? Both neighborhoods have all that you mentioned above and are walkable/bikeable to country clubs (i.e. even closer). You are also arguably closer to downtown with easy access through Rock Creek Park or 16th street. In addition to all the attractions you listed above, and more importantly, you don't have the risk of a munitions dump in your backyard. Just saying, seems like a no brainer for me.
