I understand if you don't plan to try them." The seasoned profressionals who are parents themselves often are more laid back and down to earth with their suggestions. You buy some ridiculous whatever or you do something simple like get sand and put it in a plastic container to have in your basement on rainy days ?! The expensive sh&t was a waste and they get defensive when you share what happened. The sand is all over the basement and you are still vacuuming it up months later and she gets defensive when you explaqin why sand indoors is not a good idea.

When this happens I am the parent who in the introduction part of the meeting I ask each person their role and purpose for attending the meeting and then restate what they said in terms of the services they can speak about or approve/ disapprove. The best was when the district person said that she was just “visiting different schools to get a sense of IEP meetings” and she has shown up at every single one of ours.
