I think if you like a sugary cake ( which I admit I do) ypu go to giant.
If you like a less sweet cake, hip it not pay a lot, you go to Safeway.
You want to impress your friends with a fancy cake, you go to a bakery.
but I swear, the whole Costco calves tears great claim is an urban legend. Everyone pretends they are great, but they are completely tasteless. My theory is everyone pretend to like them so they can but them ?

The artificial fillings (canned fruit in goo) suck and the "buttercream" is nothing more than crisco (pure lard) and sugar. We get cakes from Balducci's and Alexandria Pastry Shop. That being said, if the party is mostly for children, I think it's okay to get whatever cake the kids will like and that is within your budget. Why spend $60 for a cake if no one will appreciate the difference between real fresh whipped cream and lard sugar frosting?
If you worked at a bakery, you should have learned that shortening and lard are two different things. And commercial bakeries use hi-ratio shortening, not crisco.
for some reason i LOVE the bolded, but, fake fruity goo-NO!!!!!!
