I lol'd.

This is definitely not the worst we've seen recently. Remember the bill to allow lawsuits against a foreign country? Not only did they pass it but overrode a presidential veto and *THEN* came back to suspend it just prior to it taking effect and blamed Obama for not being vocal enough against it.

This one they at least stopped short of even putting it up for an official vote.

- a republican

+1 Another Republican, and I rolled my eyes at that vote, too. Dumbasses, the lot of them.

Agreed!

See? A democratic republic at work. Sham on the for even trying. Whatever grievances they have with the committee, neutering it completely is not in keeping with the intent of such an independent committee.

I do take some comfort that the vote for putting forth the amendment was 119-74, with republican leadership being against the amendment.

Does anyone know the history of this committee's actions? Has it been a tool of abuse used to target republicans, like the IRS?

It is an independent, bi-partisan body. The only reason to eliminate it is if you plan to do harm to your office or the nation.

Well, so is the IRS and FBI - supposedly bi-partisan but have been used by Obama as tools against republicans.

It's a clowncar. K. Conway was on TV this morning defending the change while Paul Ryan was doing an unprincipled song and dance. Good thing the GOP doesn't embarrass easily.

Sean Spicer was out defending it today too. The transition seems to be rudderlesss.

Maybe they are just following Trump's lead. If you just eliminate the ethics committee, then you don't need to have ethics.

If Trump can ignore his conflicts of interest and obvious corruption, why not Congress too?

Obviously, they thought it would get little attentions. Say thank you to the liberal media.
