WMATA is the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. It is managed by a board with reps from DC, Virginia, Maryland, and the Federal Govt. It is NOT managed by the govt of the District of Columbia.

Anyone who does not know that either does not live in the area, or is poorly informed about local government.

NP here. But it is not DC Metro. It is WMATA which includes Maryland and Virginia. I have lived in a really, bigly city. It is called NYC. And yes, we had issues with our transit system as well. Fights, killings, muggings, broken down trains, filth inside and outside the trains, riding in-between cars for safety, you name it. The difference between the transit system in NY and the DC Metro is that the people finally organized and started making the pols accountable. NY finally received dedicated funding, something WMATA does not have.

I read in the Post that WMATA falls in the middle when comparing problems with the system. SEPTA, Chicago, NY, Atlanta and a couple of others have more fires and breakdowns. Perhaps because you are in DC you've become uninformed or uninterested in the other systems and only see failure, when there may be progress. I get that the system needs fixing, but to say it is a joke and that other big cities do it better is not true. At least that's what analysis reported in Post showed anyway.

Totally agree! I recently went to have a car inspection and got my car seat installation corrected all within an hour. Awesome service, kind helpful employees. Miles better than it was ten years ago. Props!
