Truly the most unintentional insight into DC parenting I've ever seen on this board. That was a reasonable, probably assumption in that person's mind. Of course his mother was calling to make sure he was in bed in the village! What 32 year old's mother wouldn't?

He's smarter, faster, and richer than you... So I'd say he is fairly intelligent.
If we are talking about Lochte, all that matters is that he is hot as hell and can swim.

He is a famous athlete with multiple endorsements, not a teenager on spring break. I don't think he is calling mom to have her wire some cash by western union. Ridiculous.

And Brazil's government has some pretty glaring motive for trying to cover it up (and a history in these Olympics of trying to downplay/discredit others who have reported violent crimes).

If Ryan Lochte was going to make up a story just to get out of trouble with his mom, why would he make it so fanciful with the robbers pretending to be police and everything else? He'd probably keep it really simple, we were walking out of an event, trying to find a taxi, and these guys mugged us. There'd be no reason to invent a story that would attract particular police interest if it ever got out.
