I think this is a great idea.

I walked by the neighborhood charter school yesterday (DC) and there was a sign saying that it was a site where lunches were available for kids during the summer. I was really happy for the reminder that stuff like that exists. Say whatever you want about the poor choices adults make - kids should be insulated from hunger.

The Boys & Girls Clubs feel their members lunch everyday, at least they did when I was the director of one years ago. We had a sliding scale fee wise and I would say over half our members didn't have to pay. Had to keep TANF records as well for some reimbursement (although it wasn't much).

People get desperate for activities in the summer. Isn't it billed as a "BBQ"? Maybe it sounds more festive than it actually is? Is there a menu posted somewhere?


Please. There are a ton of activities out there. It's not that hard to pack a picnic for the park or pool. I don't think much of UMC moms who would do this. They sound like idiots.


The email sent out said it was a BBQ open to all families. I think it's BBQ sandwiches. Maybe it didn't dawn on the group that only poor families should go. I personally don't care if they go. I'm pretty sure it would be families who attend one of those schools anyway. You don't like the poor people going because taxpayer dollars are going to it, but then if a tax paying person goes, that's also a problem.

I wasn't happy to read about this program of free summer lunches for anyone that showed up at any of these schools. No qualification needed to receive a free lunch. Anyone over a certain age, I'm guessing 18, has to pay $2, anyone under 18 it is FREE. It's not Free, the taxpayers are paying for this FREE lunch. Guess who the majority of lunches are going for, my guess- illegal immigrant children. Yes, in a perfect world, everyone of us should get to eat. 1) Plan to. Husband's a liberal and complains about the taxes, but of course has no intellectual understanding of WHY his taxes are so high...

2) I know my county supports illegals on my dime BECAUSE of other sources, NOT because of DCUM.

Not the PP, but how would moving help? The program is paid for by the USDA. Does the USDA get its money from federal taxes?
