My older brother lives in a planned community in Florida with on of those manmade water overflow drainage areas. They've had gators on their back porch. For the last 20 years.
No one who's been in Florida hasn't seen a gator.
You know, the mascot name of the state flagship university.

"No swimming" means "no swimming" and CNN reports the child was in the water. Why do people continuously think signs and rules don't apply to them?? Tragic, but 100% preventable.

I bet disney takes precautions to keep animal kingdom and the safari lodge free of gators to protect the animals. Too bad they don't protect the baby humans.

that's your response to this tragedy? are you the spawn of trump?

I guess, and no. Gators will eat what they eat. Keep kids away and they won't get eaten.

Why would anyone expect gators to be at disney? How would you know to take precautions at an amusement park or resort?

They spray for mosquitoes but don't remove gators? WTF?

Have you never been to Florida? Gators are as common there as deer are here. They can be found at every resort and golf course.

But shark sightings are rare, while gator sightings are apparently common. Plus, sharks don't walk out of the water and drag you in.

My sister lived in Captiva and Naples, and said she developed anxiety after gator and shark sightings constantly. Hearing about a neighbor's dog being eaten by a gator was the last straw.

Every article and every Commentor who has been there has said no signs.

Every article, CNN, etc said signs posted "at every vantage point."

Yup. I wouldn't go in July even sans alligators.

Anonymous wrote:OMG. How is it possible that they have gators on their property?!?! You'd think it was a man-made lagoon free of gators.

Can't prevent that. They only had a sign that said "no swimming" apparently. A sign "gators present" would have been more appropriate. It's Florida - a gator can get in quickly.

People forget that there are two sides to magic. White magic, and black magic.

Warning sign at Disney's private island about sea life. Such signs are posted at every beach entrance. Why doesn't disney world have signs warning about gators?
