Ithaca, NY

Agree with Adirondacks - summer or winter. Good skiing at White Face and Gore.

Indianapolis for the Indy 500...an incredible experience, just nothing like it.

The Adirondacks, especially Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Old Forge area. Incredibly beautiful scenery, cute towns and lots to keep a family busy for a week. Lake Placid and Saranac are just 15 miles apart, so you can enjoy both. Saranac is more peaceful and great for canoing/kayaking, while Lake Placid has the restaurants and shops you'd want, as well as access to the High Peaks mountains. Incredible area!

National Aviary birds! so cool!
Carnegie Museum of Natural HistoryDinosaurs! Especially since Smithsonian's are off view for a while

Go up in the arch, the Cardinals ballpark is great, Forest Park (has a zoo, catch a musical at the outdoor "Muni" theatre, art museum), planetarium.

Just outside the city are the Magic House, a train museum in the western suburbs.

Visit the Hill for Italian food (stop at Missouri Bakery), O'Connell's for burgers.

St. Louis is fantastic. It is probably one of the best cities for kids in the country.

The zoo (Free!) is hands down the best traditional zoo in the US. It is better than San Diego (The main zoo, of course not the animal sanctuary).

I agree with all of this!

If you are going to St. Louis, you have to go to the City Museum. There's nothing like it anywhere.

And you have to get BBQ in St. Louis, Pappy's is most people's favorite.

City Gardens in the summer for kids splashing around followed by lunch at one of the five or six food trucks that pull up.

Pittsburgh deservedly getting love. There's a park/fountain in the river where the kids would have spent hours wading and splashing.

Also really surprised by Milwaukee. Who knew there is a beach there?

And Tucson--I posted my itinerary for our trip there this spring.

I'm from Traverse City, MI. I've said on other threads that it's a little slice of heaven. Northern Michigan is beautiful-- pretty much everything north of the thumb.
