Oddly enough SCAA is our local club and it was just rebranded back to SCAA after a stint with FCV - http://patch.com/virginia/lorton/south-county-athletic-association-scaa-partners-with-fc-virginia

We went to one of their U9 tryouts and they had one team of u9/u10 boys. The rest of the field was taken up by the girls teams so they had about 1/8 of a field to practice on, very crowded. Since they only have one team that same team plays the other YDL clubs A and B teams. The practice from my opinion was not on par with BRYC and PWSI (current club) and the parents I spoke to were considering other options due to the shake up. Also one parent told me that the coach was too demeaning and insulting to the boys. When I attended the tryout one boy was not paying attention so the coach made him go sit with the girls team as "punishment"

Just sharing my observations. Hopefully, someone else has direct experience with the club.

This cracks me up. I've never heard of anyone doing this, but I actually love the impulse to squeeze in more soccer for your kid. You sound like the sort of parent who is ready to step up and help organize pickup games in the local parks.

LOL it was just a thought. My kid cant get enough and figured it would just be fun for him. I am not taking it up as serious competition and no I am not the crazy parent on the sideline screaming my head. Just throwing it out there to get some feedback.

Yes this would be for the younger kids U9/U10. Technically it is pickup soccer isnt it?

I have thought about doing that before when my child was younger just to see how s/he stacked up and to see what other clubs were doing but for a variety of reasons, we never did. As you get older, there's more risk of blowback if word gets back to your coach.

I'll interject that as someone pointed out, this thread and others really does show Travel soccer in the the worst possible light. Sure there is some good and some bad parents, but the vast majority I would assess as pretty decent parents. It's hit or miss and based on the parents on your team and what team you are on. I would say, it seems from our experience of two years and playing on three different teams in the club, that the higher the team the worse the parents tend to be unfortunately. May not always hold true, but what we have seen in our age group that is an accurate statement.

Rec is no picnic either - i coach a SECOND GRADE rec team and the team we played had the MOST offensive Coaches - just really loud and obnoxious and patronizing. entirely unpleasant to compete against them. Another team had HORRIBLE parents... and we have only had about 4 games so about half have had bad parents or bad coaches. Some people just need to step back and assess that NONE of these kids (on these rec teams at least) are going to make a living playing soccer - it's second grade soccer and it is supposed to be fun.

The boys DOC is definitely getting those emails and passing them along. I'd send another email. Make sure the address is correct.

That's good. Guess we just slipped between the cracks (or made a mistake on e-mail address).

Just to share my experience I sent an email and got a quick response and was invited to join one of their training session (boys). They have 3 coaches for the entire group and the "team mom" was telling me there was 3 teams. Seemed very well organized. Also got some feedback on my son. Good Luck
