I’m the poster directly above you, and I can commiserate with this, too. My 11 year old is also 5’8” and, yes, both the budget and the headspace required to keep her in appropriate clothes that fit properly are a lot! Only silver lining is that we can technically share clothes and shoes now, but I don’t think she’s very excited about that.

Because time is going so quickly now. I JUST got those pants 7 years ago...

I’m 43 and I would live to spend more money on clothes but I have a really hard time finding decent pieces that work for my life. I don’t want to walk around in Lululemon or Athleta all day, and while I love the look of higher-end work clothes, I would look ridiculous showing up to my casual office like that. Everything in between just seems cheaply made. Plus, the hassle of having to buy everything online and guess at sizes and deal with returns (I live in an area with pretty sparse shopping options.) It’s frustrating, so I’ve basically given up.

Haha- I am amazed at how true this is! I'd say it happened right around 44 (I'm 48 now). I don't spend a lot of money on clothing either. It's not a priority for me.

I don’t buy trends anymore, only things I know work for me. I also buy higher quality things than I used to, and I don’t have an unlimited budget, so I buy better items less frequently. Better items tend to last longer so I don’t need to replace them as much.

I've been the same size since 17. I have all the clothes I need. A rare want comes up but I can always shop my closet.

I'm 39 and get this totally.

At a certain point, even if you're attractive for your age, you're no longer the main focus in any environment you're in. People are looking at the 17-35, maybe 40 year olds, not the 50+ year olds. I can totally see how putting a ton of money and effort into your appearance in your 20s and 30s is beneficial and makes sense, but at 50? Why bother? Which isn't to say you totally throw in the towel but the benefits to devoting a good chunk of time and budget to things like having the latest clothes just isn't there anymore. There's no longer much of a payoff.

Huh? Who cares if I’m the main focus? I dress for me. I love fashion and color. But everything out now is made poorly, ugly, and is peasant-style. I have more money to spend but nowhere to spend it. I’ve returned to my design and sewing to attempt to make something attractive that and flattering.

Because I'm far more interested in building wealth than throwing money away on crap.

Because I've accomplished enough in life that I have no need to prove myself to others.

Because fashion is about seduction.
